Complete lesson: 45 minutes

Off with their heads! How did an agreement called the Magna Carta limit the power of monarchies around the world? In this BrainPOP movie, you’ll learn about the origin and impact of one of the most important legal documents in history. You’ll learn about King John, the 13th century monarch who pushed his country too far, and how the barons of England revolted against his spendthrift ways. Tim will explain some of the rules contained in the Articles of the Barons, the document King John was forced to sign, and the original version of the Magna Carta. The right to a fair trial, free travel, and private property all started here! America’s founding fathers owe a lot to the Magna Carta, and so do you.
