Please encourage your student to check their email on a daily basis. Students will frequently receive important, time-sensitive information from teachers, professors, and administrators through email, and it is very important that students read these emails every day.
Thank you!

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Attention Parents:
Your student is doing a lot right now and it's important to check in. As the counselor I'll always do everything I can to meet with any student in need, but I know that not everyone will feel comfortable coming to talk to an adult that they aren't as close with as they are with their parents. Ask them how their college classes are going. Ask them how their high school classes are going. Ask them about their favorite teachers or the friends they're making. Ask them what is causing them stress and try to help them determine what they can do to alleviate some of that stress.
If you have any questions or concerns or just want some additional resources just reach out and let me know. I'm happy to help!

yearbook
Hey all, sorry to be that guy, but it would be AWESOME if you bought a yearbook to have a keepsake for the year, and to support the school! Below is a link to order, along with some teasers of the cover and pages. Thanks Julie for being our first supporter! The deadline is next Friday the 31st.
Here is what support can look like:
- Remind them that you are proud of their bravery of taking college classes as freshman in high school.
- Have them tell you about the most interesting thing they've learned in their college classes.
- Look at the course work and ask questions.
- Look over their grades in Blackboard with them, and ask them about what the different categories mean.
- Remind them about self care (taking walks, reading books, quick brain breaks).
- Sign up for Remind 101. I send out reminders to students about upcoming tests and grade checks. If you sign up, you will get reminders as well. It's a great conversation starter! It's easy....Just text one of the following codes to 81010.
Monday/Wednesday 2nd period: @pathwaysmw

Tuesday/Thursday 1st period: @9ec7k23

Transportation Services Survey
Transportation Services wants to hear from our student bus riders! A student survey will be available through Classlink this week in order to gather feedback regarding their experience riding GCISD buses. If they are a bus rider, they can click on the bus icon in Classlink to complete the survey. This information will help the transportation team plan for the future and identify any trends. If your student is a bus rider, please encourage them to complete the online survey from their student device.
GCISD Holding Inaugural Career Expo
All middle and high school students are invited to GCISD’s inaugural Career Expo on February 5. Additionally, the District is looking for local professionals to participate.
Sign-Up Form for Professionals
GCISD will host its inaugural Career Expo on Wednesday, February 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grapevine High School. All GCISD secondary students and families are invited to this event, and local professionals are asked to sign up and be a part of the event. The event is organized by GCISD DECA (a Career and Technical Student Organization) and GCISD CTE (Career and Technical Education) students.
Information for Students
Join fellow students and families for a night filled with many activities geared at preparing you for a successful career. Students will have the opportunity to speak with professionals from various industries about careers and educational pathways.
The expo will also include breakout sessions that explore entrepreneurship, employability skills human resource professionals value, and dressing for success presented by Men’s Warehouse.
Additionally, GCISD Career and Technical Education will host an open house for students and parents to learn about the programs offered to high school students at the Technology Education and Career Center (TECC).
Information for Professionals
GCISD DECA and GCISD CTE are seeking individuals and businesses to host informational tables to educate students about different career pathways and opportunities. To take part in this special event, please complete this short sign-up form.
Each presenter will be provided with a 6-foot table and two chairs and will be separated into career pathways to share information about careers, education required, certifications, job perks, interactive demos, summer job, and internship opportunities.
It’s not always easy for students to connect their daily core classes, electives, and extracurricular activities with possible jobs and career paths of the future. We believe that the more we expose our students to the many different trades, jobs, and careers that are available, the better informed they’ll be to set goals towards them.
We would like to ask professionals in our community to share their knowledge and expertise with all of our students!
Parent Tech Academy
The next Parent Tech Academy will be Hour of Code: Parent Addition. It will be hosted on February 12 from 6:15 PM to 7:30 PM at PDEC Professional Development Education Center at 5800 Colleyville Boulevard.
Come experience hands-on coding as the GCISD Instructional team brings the hour of code activities to our parents and community.
Please pre-register here so we can have enough materials for hands-on activities for everyone.

This year for the first time it has been created as a website in hopes that this will be easier for students and parents to navigate and access. Click here to visit the website.

Junior Class SAT at School on March 4, 2020
Starting this school year, House Bill 3 (HB 3) included a school finance provision that provides for every junior and senior to take a college preparation exam at least once during high school. In October, approximately half of our seniors took the SAT at school at no cost to them. On March 4th, all GCISD juniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT at school at no cost as well. Materials for all juniors will be provided so no registration will be required.
