The Chromebook Store - helpful apps and extensions

What is the Chromebook Store?

The Chromebook Store is similar to the iTunes store. It is a place where you can search for apps, browser extensions, and themes. Many apps are useful in the classroom, free, and easy to use.

Browser extensions are like superpowers for your browser. There are also many cool extensions that are helpful to both students and teachers.

Themes can help you to personalize your browser to your liking by offering many different colors and backgrounds.

What Apps and/or Extensions would I want?

There are a lot of great, free apps and more in the store. There is an entire section dedicated to teacher tools including gradebooks, classroom management organizers, assessment tools, note taking apps, and many others. For students, you can find flash cards, educational games, reference tools, etc. Many of them are free and easy to use.

Popular extensions can help reduce advertising on websites, capture screenshots for editing, bookmark sites onto Symbaloo, organize your open browser tabs, Pin it for Pinterest users... There are so many to choose from!

More extensions

There are truly a ton of useful extensions out there. Here is a list of others you may want to look into for your classroom:

  • Save to Google Drive
  • Shorten Me
  • TLDR
  • Screencastify
  • Snagit
  • Webpage Screenshot
  • Note Anywhere

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

I will be in the media center again this Tuesday to share with you some of the apps/extensions that might interest you. I'll introduce the store for about 5 minutes and I'll also have a few of my favorite extensions available for you to try. Bring your MacBooks to try out the store on your own!
