The ASOT Reflection

Region 9 High Reliability Schools-October 2018

No Fear!

Trying new things in the classroom can be a little scary! However, we want to remind you that we are here to help as you implement pieces of the Art and Science of Teaching in your own classroom. That help can look different for each of you. We can model strategies, co-teach using a strategy, help plan a lesson using a strategy, or observe a lesson to give feedback. We want you to be successful in reaching your goals!

Strategy Spotlight

Let's dive into Element 20: Purposeful Homework. This one can feel a little tricky. Sometimes homework isn't helpful or effective. Sometimes our students need the extra practice.

Marzano suggests several strategies for using homework effectively:

  • Preview homework
  • Homework to deepen knowledge
  • Homework to practice a process or skill
  • Parent-assessed homework

You can also find some helpful resources about homework on our website under the resources from training sessions for ASOT.
