The Transfiguration

In today’s Gospel, something happened that is called “transfiguration.” Transfiguration means a complete change of appearance to be more beautiful.

The Bible tells us that one day Jesus took three of His disciples, Peter, James, and John, and went up on a mountain to pray. As Jesus prayed, His face was changed and His clothes became a dazzling white. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking to Jesus. Peter and the others had fallen asleep and when they woke up, they saw Jesus and the other two talking. They were amazed at that wonderful sight!

What an experience! Do you know what caused the face of Jesus to be changed and His clothes to become dazzling white? It was because they were in the presence of God!

The Apostle Paul said in a letter he wrote to the church at Corinth, "For God, who said, 'Let there be light in the darkness,' has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ."

You and I have many wonderful experiences in our daily walk with Jesus. Others can see that we have the love of Jesus in our heart by seeing his reflection shining bright in us!

Dear God, we thank You for the joy we experience in Jesus Christ. Help us reflect that joy in our bright, shining faces. In Jesus' name, amen.

Cold and Wet Weather

As the weather is starting to warm up and the snow begins to melt, the playground areas will be wet, muddy and possible icy while the temperatures still dip down at night. Students will be required to go outside for recess therefore it's important they have the proper outdoor clothing and footwear. Younger students should have a change of pants, warm coat, gloves/mitts, hats and rubber boats.

Choose Joy !

Elk Island Catholic Schools is invited to help bring joy to vulnerable women at Lurana Shelter as they take the first steps in building a violence-free life.

In just a couple of short months, Lurana Shelter will join Catholic Social Services' (CSS) portfolio of Sign of Hope funded programs, marking a critical shift in CSS' capacity to help women in crisis. We're thrilled to invite our partners at Elk Island Catholic Schools to be among the first to support Lurana as a Sign of Hope program!

Lurana is a 21-day crisis shelter operating 32 beds for women and children escaping domestic violence. By donating to your school's team, staff, students, and family of EICS are helping provide food, shelter, and security to women and children as they rebuild after violence.

We encourage staff, students and families to make a donation.
