Parkview Elementary
April 2021 Newsletter
Hello Parkview Families!
As we turn the calendar over to April, we are well into our journey of learning and growing this school year!
This week we start back to school 5 days a week! There will be a change for absent students......When your child is out of school for an extended period of time, we will provide school work similarly to how we did it in the past (pre-COVID). Although staff may, as an option, still invite students to join their classrooms through Google Meets and do their school work through Google Classroom. However, there will not be any recorded lessons for students to view.
During the month of April our third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be taking the WI Forward Exam. Our Parkview Virtual Students will be testing during the week of April 12-16th. Fifth Grade will be testing April 19-23. The Fourth Grade will be testing April 26-30th, and the Third Grade will be testing May 3-7th.. This computerized test is a state requirement for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of core academics including reading and math. Fourth Grade will also be tested in the areas of social studies and science. There are some great ways to help your child be prepared for this type of exam, two ideas include:
Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast
Many teachers report that students who don't do well on tests haven't gotten enough sleep, and haven't eaten breakfast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity (Narang, 2008).
Remain positive
Staying calm will help your child stay calm. If your child gets nervous about the test or is likely to experience anxiety during the test, help them practice some relaxation techniques that they can try once they are taking the test (Narang, 2008).
If you have questions about your child’s progress, or the WI Forward exam, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or me. The Parkview staff values our partnership with parents and want to be sure that we are providing valuable information about your child’s learning with you.
Yours in Parkview PRIDE,
Melissa Olson
Principal

Parent Satisfaction Survey
CFAUSD is on a continuous journey to make our schools the best places for students to learn, staff to work, and parents to send their children for a great public education experience. In this effort, we appreciate your support. It is important to gather feedback from you to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth. Please take a few minutes and complete this Parent Satisfaction Survey to help provide this feedback.
The survey will remain open until April 9th.
CFAUSD Nursing and Health Services
In collaboration with the Chippewa County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and in accordance with CDC, WI DHS, and WIAA guidelines, we will be utilizing the following protocol for contact tracing, quarantine, and isolation purposes:
· For students, the CFAUSD will continue to follow the 14-day quarantine, this remains the safest option for our students, as bussing and school settings cannot wholly accommodate for the 6 feet distance rule at all times - this aligns with medical and legal recommendations.
· If your child has tested positive for Covid-19 s/he may return to school after isolation when:
- 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared AND
- Improvement of symptoms and fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication
· If students are considered a close contact and have had Covid-19 within the last 90 days, proof of a positive test result will be needed to exempt them from the quarantine period.
· Additionally, WIAA recommends the 14-day quarantine before competition. No shorter time quarantine for any athletes even if separated from the team.
· For staff, we may utilize the 7-day, 10-day, or 14-day quarantine protocol on a case-by-case basis and is contingent upon the following criteria for a full 14 days after an exposure to a verified Covid-19 diagnosis:
- Continue wearing a mask
- Keep 6 feet of distance from people you do not live with (except brief contacts)
- Monitor symptoms daily and have no symptoms during the entire 14 days
As a reminder to all:
· Mask/face covering mandate remains in effect until further notice.
· Do not send children to school sick and follow the management of Covid-19 symptoms guidelines, click here for a copy of those guidelines.
· Students that get sick at school, will need to be picked up from school promptly and follow the management of Covid-19 symptoms guidelines.
· If anyone in your household is waiting for the results of a Covid-19 test, any student(s) in the household should not come to school pending results.
· If any family members are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, any student(s) in the household should not come to school until the family member is cleared with an authorized medical note or official evidence of a negative Covid-19 test
Wisconsin immunization requirements for the 2021-22 school year
Important information regarding Wisconsin immunization requirements for the 2021-22 school year.
FOR INCOMING KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS-2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR: Wisconsin state law requires students to be immunized within 30 days from the start of school. Below are Wisconsin immunization requirements:
• 4 doses of DTaP, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis/whooping cough) or DT (diphtheria, tetanus) vaccine. A dose may be needed for children entering kindergarten if one of the DTaP doses was not given after the fourth birthday.
• 4 doses polio vaccine
• 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine - at least one dose must be after 6 months old
• 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine
• 2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or parent report that the child has had chickenpox illness with a date of the disease
FOR INCOMING 6TH GRADERS- 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR: The Wisconsin Student Immunization law requires a Tdap, the adolescent combination vaccine that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough), within 30 days from the start of the 6th grade school year.
If your child still needs any of these vaccines, we encourage you to have your child immunized well before school starts to avoid the late summer rush at the Health Department or at your doctor’s office. Please bring your updated immunization records with you at registration. Please contact your school nurse with any questions.
