District Update - Dec. 1
Superintendent's Message
Let me begin by expressing my gratitude to our Midview students, staff members, and families for your efforts, contributions, and support leading into Thanksgiving Break. I hope that you were able to enjoy some time away with those that matter most and reflect on all things worthy of thanks and appreciation.
It’s hard to believe that we have now entered the final month of 2023. December is always a great month on campus as hard work and holiday spirit carry us quickly through the few weeks leading up to winter break.
For those in our community looking to support our music and winter athletic programs, there are several opportunities to attend a holiday concert or opening game/match in the coming days. Check our district and athletic calendars for more information, and join us on campus!
While we look forward to the many joys of winter and celebrating the holiday season as a community, we acknowledge this can be a challenging time for some. As a district, we are fortunate to have an incredible team of support professionals who are here to assist our families at any time and can offer multiple resources in many diverse areas. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our building counselors, student family liaisons, or district social workers for any needs. Visit our website for their emails or call your building’s main office to be connected with them directly.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact a building principal or our central office should you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support.
Take care,
Dr. Willingham

Midview High School Resource Officer Receives Life-Saving Award
On Friday, November 10, Sheriff Stammitti presented Deputy Bing, MHS School Resource Officer, with the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association Life Saving Award.
On October 31, Deputy Bing had just finished his shift at Midview High School when a call came into his cruiser radio that a citizen had accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Deputy Bing, recognizing that he was the closest car in the area, arrived on the scene and applied a life-saving tourniquet. He continued to render aid until Columbia Fire arrived and transported the subject.
We are proud Deputy Bing is a member of our community and the Midview team!

Snow Day & Two-Hour Delay Information
The safety and well-being of Midview students is our top priority. With winter weather upon us, there may be times we have to delay or cancel school. Below are a few common questions about our policy and where to find out if school has been delayed or canceled.
How much snow is needed to cancel or delay school?
There is not a specific amount of snow that leads to an automatic closure or delay. It all depends on the condition of the roads. We keep a close eye on the weather and drive the roads early in the morning to see if they are safe enough for our young drivers to get to school and/or for our buses to travel the streets. If they are not safe, we will cancel. If it looks like the roads only need a few more hours of work, we will consider delaying.
When does the temperature result in a delay or cancellation?
There is no board policy or state law regarding this. However, generally, Midview Local Schools will delay or cancel when the wind chill is or is expected to be anywhere around -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
How will I find out if school is delayed or canceled?
Midview has multiple outlets for letting parents and students know school is canceled. Please check the following:
- District-wide all-call, text message, and mobile app push notifications. Please double-check that your phone number/email is correct.
Announcement on the district website and our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)
Announcement on all local media outlets (radio, TV, and newspaper)
Midview Celebrates Local Heroes on Veterans Day
On Veterans Day, we were fortunate to host over 35 local heroes during our annual assembly. Long have we understood the importance of honoring those who have sacrificed for our country in the name of freedom, and we are proud and humbled to have spent our morning celebrating their service and bravery.
We would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to our veterans and their guests for joining us, the team at East Intermediate for their efforts in planning an incredibly meaningful assembly, our Midview AFJROTC for their POW/MIA presentation, and Colonel Robert Hammond for taking the time to zoom in from Kuwait as our guest speaker. We would also like to congratulate our talented 6th-grade choir students for a great performance and our 5th and 6th-grade Veterans Day Poetry winners:

- Grace Smith (6th Grade Poem Honorable Mention) - "When I Think of Veterans"
- Anne Hemmingsen (5th Grade Poem Winner) - "Veterans Day"
- Riley McClellan (5th Grade Poem Honorable Mention) - "Stomp, Stomp, Stomp"
