Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club
December 2014
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hi Everyone,
Silver Star opened on Nov 27th and never looked back after getting 95cm in 7 days. I’m sure there were some challenges with all that snow at once but you’d never know it. Early season ski conditions have been great.
Our competitive program started right away and then Freestlerz programs cranked it up this past weekend. Although competitive teams have started, it’s not too late to get your athlete registered for recreational Freestylerz and Jumps and Bumps (think Sundays though as the Saturday programs are bulging). Go to our website for more info at ssfreestyle.com.
When you’re on the mountain, keep a lookout for athletes sporting their new training jerseys with new and returning sponsors on the back. Welcome back gold sponsors: Kal Tire, CIBC, Monashee Powder and Helmut’s Sausage Kitchen. Welcome back our silver sponsors: Big Steel Box, Speedpro Signs, Pleasant Valley Dental, HollisWealth, Vernon Morning Star, Loland Taves Dental, Vernon Radiological Associates, Sun FM and Nixon Wenger. Also a warm welcome to new silver sponsors: Buy-Low Foods and Skevik Skis.
Please take that extra moment to thank our sponsors for the support to our club next time you’re visiting their establishments.
Other shout outs to the Silver Star special events crew and grooming staff whom without their support our club would not have been able to get our programs up and running so fast.
As many of you may know, our club is hosting two major event this season: BC Championships and Junior Nationals. Many hands will be needed in order to put on successful events for the kids. Soon a “job jar” will be emailed out so sign up early for those cushy manager jobs and off snow help is needed now. Contact our volunteer coordinator, Matthew Brown at matthew6073@gmail.com or James Rykuiter at jrykuiter@live.ca for more information.
That’s all I got for now. See you on the slopes!
All the best,
Cameron
PROGRAM DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
Program Director’s Update, December 2014
This year’s snow couldn’t have arrived a day later to have a great opening day at Silver Star Mountain. A week before the opening day things were looking pretty green up at Silver Star Mountain. Four days out it started to snow and 90+ cms later the Silver Star Mountain Staff were able to open the front side of the mountain. Opening weekend the Rock Star Terrain Park was open along with some great early season conditions all over the mountain for training with the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Team. Coaches Graham Pollock, Paul Passek and I were super excited to get on snow with 18 of Silver Star’s finest Freestyle Skiers.
As I write this email I have had eight days of skiing and coaching. I am pleased to announce we have two very pleasant young Competitive Freestylerz Team Coaches leading this program. Both Andrew Pool and Tom Joly are back from coaching Freestylerz last season and will be preparing the Super Youth Skiers this year for a fun season of training and competitions. Freestylerz has recreational and competitive options this season. The competitive Freestylerz group is pretty much filled up but we can probably squeeze in a couple more on Sundays if anyone is interested.
The Recreational Freestylerz Group is all day either Saturday or Sunday starting January 3 & 4 for 10 sessions. This program is great for skiers ready for black diamond runs, skiing the mini moguls course and hitting “medium features” in the Rock Star Park.
I would like to thank everyone for registering for J&Bs this season. As of December 10 between both Short Sessions and the Three-hour J&Bs Sessions we have over 90 folks registered and more wanting to sign up on waiting lists. These numbers are encouraging as the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club strives to develop a program with the focus of providing an environment of safety, fun and learning. If you know someone that is interested that is not signed up please encourage them to sign up NOW for Sunday afternoons or get on the waiting list registration option. We are striving to fit everyone in where they want to go. Anyone with questions can email me directly (contact info below).
Talor Weixl is back to head up the G-Team. This program runs for 11 sessions and provides an all-girls environment to build confidence in the girls skiing all mountain, moguls, and park terrain. Last season some of the girls entered competitions and hit the Katal Air Bag.
Coaching – It takes a great crew of coaches to develop a world-leading freestyle club. We are actively recruiting coaches at the moment. In one week’s time we will be hosting a Club Coach Training session. There is still space available if anyone is interested. Click here to get registered NOW.

Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club is seeing signs of growth this season. We want to thank the community for its support with advertising, supporting sports and working together to have world leading training ground for freestyle skiers. The Silver Star Freestyle Club is working hard to ensure that as we grow we continue to provide a safe, fun, and positive environment for our kids. We strive to develop life-long skiers and future world champions and Olympians that will inspire all of us.
