Principal's Corner
Riverview Families,
The colder weather came on strong the past few days! Last week we had several students who were cold at recess and spent their time outside huddled together trying to stay warm. With daytime temps expected to be in the high 20s and low 30s this week, please send your child to school in a warm jacket, hat, and gloves. Once the snow comes, boots and snowpants are also recommended. Labeling everything with your child's name or initials to it doesn't get lost is very helpful as well.
The colder weather also probably means more time inside for your child after school. This is a great opportunity to read together as a family! There is nothing better than curling up with a good book under a warm blanket during the cold winter months. If you ever are in need of books for your child to read we have extensive class libraries, a expansive media center, and access to the Dakota County Library System. Remember - reading 20-30 minutes a night can have a significant impact on your child's success in school for years to come and set them up to be a curious lifelong learner! Reading at home is not only good for academic achievement, it is a great way to create a quiet & calm household, reduces stress & anxiety, support wellness & mental health, improve critical thinking, and promote empathetic thinking in your children.
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

A Note About "Smart" Watches
However, we have run into a few instances of students texting, calling, and taking photos with smart watches during the school day. Each of these actions are against our school policy and should not happen. At this time, we will continue to allow students to wear "Smart" watches but, like any privilege, the right to do so could be taken away if rules are not followed. Please talk to your child and remind them of our expectations. We will do the same at school. Also, remember that if you need to contact your child during the day that you call the RVES main office and do not message/call them directly. Thank you for your help with this!

Farmington Student Experiences Survey To Take Place Between October 30 & November 10
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for feedback from students in grades 3-12 via an online survey they will be completing at school during the window of October 30-November 10, 2023. The survey should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential.
All responses in the student survey will remain confidential to protect individual privacy. You may review a copy of the sample survey questions online by clicking on this link or scanning the QR code.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in the Farmington Student Experiences survey being conducted, you may opt out by completing this “Decline Survey Participation” form and returning it to your child’s teacher or main office by October 27, 2023. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s building principal.
SeeSaw App To Change It's App Icon
