In the event any Virtual Academy students wish to have their photo taken at Ebeling, parents may call the school office to set a time for their child's photo to be taken on September 21. Photographers will be available between 9:00-11:30 AM and 12:30-1:30 PM.
EBELING WELCOMES SCHOOL SECURITY SPECIALIST
We are pleased to welcome Mr. Victor Patrone to the Ebeling team.
“Mr. Vic” is joining the Ebeling staff as a full-time security specialist. He served 27 years with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department, including eight years as the School Security Officer at Dakota High School. This is Mr. Patrone’s 8th year as a UCS Security Specialist, and we are happy to welcome him to Ebeling! Vic has joined our team to provide another way to keep our staff and students safe here at Ebeling.
Mr. Vic is already a familiar face for our students and parents through the positive interactions during morning and afternoon dismissals, lunches and throughout our school days. I know you join me in welcoming him to our Ebeling family.

MEET MS. GALAT, SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
Hello Ebeling families, I am excited to be joining Utica Community Schools as your School Social Worker! I believe that children learn best when they feel good about themselves, understand their feelings and are in control of their behavior. My role here at Ebeling is to help support students in getting to a place where they can learn their best.
The social work program at Ebeling Elementary is aimed at supporting both the academic growth and the social emotional development of all students. This support will be provided through working proactively with children individually, in small groups, and in the classroom. I will also work to provide support through consultation with teachers, administrators and community agencies.
I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know all the students here at Ebeling. I know it will be an amazing year!
ATTENDANCE POLICY
If your child is going to be absent call 586-797-4799 and leave a message on the 24-hour automated absence line. Any absences not called in to the office will be marked as 'unexcused' on student attendance records.
Your child will be excused from class for illness, bereavement, recognized religious holidays and medical or dental treatment that cannot be scheduled after school or on weekends.
Your child is responsible for makeup work. Homework requests may be made for an absence of two or more days in the case of both excused and pre-excused absences. Homework requests require 24 hours to process.
VACATION POLICY
Absence for family travel during scheduled school days is discouraged.
However, should family travel be necessary, parents must submit a written request to the Ebeling office for Principal approval of a pre-excused absence at least one week in advance. Vacation days in excess of 10 days per school year will not be approved.
Arrangements to complete classroom assignments can be made with the teacher.
You can arrange for home study through the school principal should your child be absent from school for an extended period due to physical disability or illness.
LATE ARRIVAL
If a student arrives late to school, the parent must accompany the student into the office, and the student must be signed in before he or she can go to class.
Truancy officials will be contacted in the event of a student having excessive tardies or absences.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
The teachers and staff at Ebeling support the recognition of a child’s birthday during the school day - it is an annual milestone in every child’s life. While there are many wonderful and creative ways to celebrate a child’s birthday in school, birthday celebrations at Ebeling will not include food treats. Instead, the focus will be on recognizing the day in a variety of special ways that do not include food treats. Some possibilities include:
- · Class sings “Happy Birthday”
- · Happy Birthday Recess/Gift
- . Sticker/bracelet from Principal
- · Morning “Happy Birthday” PA announcement
- · Parent makes a donation of book to class library/read to class
- · Student reads favorite book to class
- · Non-Food treat bags for classmates
- · Parent/special someone reads story to class
We do not accept deliveries on behalf of students (balloons, flowers, food items) Parents may drop off a special lunch (for their child only, not the class) or choose to take their child out to lunch on their special day. Your child’s teacher will have more information on how birthdays will be celebrated in the classroom. As educators, caregivers and loved ones we all want the best for our students. Thank you for joining us in giving students healthy opportunities to celebrate important events and achievements.

SCHOOL VISITORS:
We are asking for your assistance to ensure that our security procedures during the school day are effective. As many of you know, our school has a security camera, intercom, and buzzer at the front main entrance for use during the school day. To help us assist you when you would like to enter the school:
1. Please press the buzzer to speak with someone in the office
2. You will be asked to state your name and reason for visiting
3. You will be asked to show your photo ID into the security camera above the outside door
4. Office staff will then be able to buzz you inside
5. All visitors must immediately register in the office
In addition, we are asking you to not let any visitors in the door as you enter (and they come up behind you) or as you exit the building.
The teachers and staff are committed to student safety and security and we would like to thank you for your assistance in helping keep the students of Ebeling safe.
