G/T News & Celebrations
Stagecoach Elementary
Week of December 7th - 11th
Christmas for Kids
What we are learning/doing
2nd Grade: Discovering Our National Parks: Students are working on their multimedia presentations.
3rd & 4th Grade: Students completed writing, typing, and attaching their 15 clues to their cards. Everyone should be finishing taking their simple notes 2-3 words (not plagiarizing). They will only have 1 more week in class to research before Christmas. I have advised students that if they still need information, then they need to come for free flow or work on it at home. Remember everyone should be finished with researching by Christmas break.
Math:
** Everyone should have met their goal of 50% progress completed by next Wednesday morning in order to attend the reward party.
2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade: Each student is working and should be progressing in Khan Academy. Students can see their progress and work at their own pace. I am right there to teach different strategies to them if they still don't understand after watching the video, or if I see students struggling on a skill, I will pull them over to the side and do a small lesson on the skill. Students are to work their way through 3 or more activities each math session.
Advisory:
2nd Grade & 3rd Grade: Students will complete a Social-Emotional group lesson where they "practice" Christmas shopping with a fake budget for several pretend children using sale catalogs/brochures.
4th Grade: Students will practice for Quiz Bowl using the lock-out buzzer system.
Congratulations, Gavin!
Night of the Notables
Students have been super busy researching in books and on the computers gathering information on the notable person that they chose to find out more information about.
As a reminder, tomorrow night, December 10th, your child will need to dress up like the person they have been researching (but not wear a mask to look exactly like the person). Dressing like the person can be achieved by wearing certain clothes, wearing a hat, styling the hair (wearing a wig), a fake mustache, a fake beard, accessories, etc. If the person is dead, make a tombstone of some kind but don’t have the name showing (have it covered), we will uncover it when we reveal the notable people. Students are allowed to have 3-5 things that represent the notable person (another word for this is props – but don’t have some that just give your character away). I will have your student’s “clue” cards waiting on them upon their arrival.
Please have your child at Stagecoach ready between 5:15 and 5:20. Meet me at the door at the end of the 2nd grade hallway. I will only be able to wait there for 10 minutes, and then I will have to take the students down and put them in their place in the hallway to the right of 2nd grade hall (going towards the gym). Students will give out their clues to people from 5:30-6:05, reveal their notable person at 6:05, put their things away (clean up), then they may leave or go around and see the activities taking place around the building. Third graders will quickly go change into their music program attire, then get to the 3rd grade classroom in which they have been told to report to immediately (by 6:15 or no later than 6:20). Feel free to email me with any questions or call for me at (501) 743-3574. I really appreciate you helping your child with this fun event! Learning and making memories all at the same time ~ together we are making a difference!
