- We will discuss the importance of the balance of media in our lives
- I will use presentations, songs, and student handouts from Commonsense.org in PIC Stations
- Students will participate in a balance of PIC Stations that do and do not have media
2x2 Story Books
Week of 10/14-10/18
I have a personal goal of reading at least five 2x2 Story books to PK-2 this year.
- Classes will keep track of the 2x2 books they've read on this Boot. Each teacher will keep track in their own classroom.
- I will refer to this lesson plan to guide conversations about each book.
3rd-5th Center Visits
Creating a love of reading!
Week 9/9-9/13
- I read Henry & the Buccaneer Bunnies to 3rd graders this week. This is a cute story about the importance of books
- For 4th & 5th graders I read the prologue or first chapter of fiction books from various genres. I chose books that haven't been checked out in a very long time OR books that we have many in a series or by the same author. I'm happy to report that MANY were checked out the same day I read the 1st chapter!
Celebrate creativity, courage and the "you-niqueness" of YOU!
Week 9/23-9/27
- This week I am reading Ish by Peter Reynolds
- Students are participating in Dot and Ish inspired PIC Stations to celebrate their uniqueness and creativity.
Bluebonnet Books
Week 10/7-10/11
- By January, I will read at least 5 Bluebonnet storybooks to all 3rd-5th graders so they can vote on their favorite books!
- For students who read 10 Bluebonnet Books, I will have a small party after school at the end of January to celebrate their love of reading and as a congratulations for finishing 10 or more books!
Build a Love of Literacy with Emojis!
Week of 9/16-9/20
Can you guess this one?
***Diary of a Wimpy Kid***
Week of 9/9-9/13
How about this one?
***Magic Treehouse***
This week!
Hmmmmm...can you guess this one correctly?
Ask your child Friday afternoon. Students get the opportunity to guess each week and there's one lucky guesser!
A house point is awarded the lucky guesser!
Helping students pick "good fit" books...
- I use the "5 Finger Rule". I refer to this poster as part of lessons in the center.
- I remind students to pick books their parents would approve.
- Students must checkout books BEFORE they can participate in PIC Stations.

Follett book fair is coming! 🤓
- The center will be hosting a Book Fair the weeks of 10/21-10/25 to set up & preview and 10/28-11/1 for buying days.
- There won't be any classes during these 2 weeks.
- The center will remain open for individual checkouts, but we will ask that teachers try to have students checkout prior to and after the Book Fair.
- This is a CL&I Fundraiser. All profits will be used to purchase books for our students. We'd love to hear from you about any books you'd like to see in the center.
- WANT TO VOLUNTEER?? Visit this sign up to do so! We'd love to have you help with the Book Fair!
