Children and Reading
Why Is It Important to Read to Your Child? - Child Mind Institute
Parents hear it all the time: it's important to read to your kids. But why exactly is that? And does it matter how - or when, or what - you read to them? It makes sense that being read to would help kids learn to read themselves, and it's true that being read to supports that crucial learning process.
Benefits & Importance of Reading to Children | Children's Bureau
It's undeniable that a child's reading skills are important to their success in school, work, and life in general. And it is very possible to help ensure your child's success by reading to them starting at a very early age.

We have introduced a new resource to Washington Elementary: Paper Tutoring. Please see the following excellent resources to help get you signed up and using Paper Tutoring with your student at home.
Parent Workshops and Community Resources
Washington is a uniform school. Students may wear khaki or dark blue pants, shorts, or skirts with a white, light blue or dark blue plain shirt with a collar. They may wear any school-appropriate jacket, socks, and close-toed shoes. Leggings of any color may be worn under skirts or shorts. If students are not in uniform they will be sent to the office to change. Please contact the front office for questions about uniform.
There is a scheduled time for your student to enjoy a snack and a scheduled lunch time for them to eat lunch with their friends. You may send a healthy snack with them to school such as fruit, crackers, cheese, and juice to enjoy at recess. Lunch is provided free of charge for all students or you are welcome to send lunch for your student. Unhealthy food is not permitted on campus. Please do not send any fast food items, "hot" chips, soda, anything with caffeine, or sweets to school.
When dropping off lunch for your student at the front office, please make sure your student knows to pick up their lunch beforehand. You can also email or DOJO teacher notifying them about the student's lunch at the front office. Front office will not contact teacher/student. The front office is not responsible for notifying teachers and students about their lunch.
Parking Lot Route
There are 3 pick up zones in our new parking lot route. The pickup zones were created to keep the flow of traffic. Please let your student know which zone you will be picking them up from and to wait there. Please be kind to our staff and continue to support us in keeping our students safe in the parking lot at arrival and dismissal. Please see the map below.
- All families attending Washington Elementary MUST have a parent portal account.
- Breakfast is served everyday starting at 8am.
- Sign up for class dojo to communicate with your students' teacher.
