Blanton Flood Update
Several of our smaller classrooms (speech, dyslexia, reading recovery, counselor) that had water are now dried out and teachers are getting their rooms set back up. The library, computer lab, Creation Commons, and art rooms are still drying out. Ms. Valenta moved her art lessons to the science lab and our students have done a great job adapting to the new location. We are hopeful that our library will be able to get the shelves re-installed next week so students can begin checking out books again soon.
Learning in 2nd Grade
Writing ~ We have been able to use our creativity in writing our own fairy tales. We have learned that fictional stories have characters, setting, a problem among the characters and a solution. This week we have planned our fairy tale writing to be sure we have all of these elements. We can't wait to share with our families.
Math ~ Second graders have been busy working on solving multi-step problems. These can be tricky but students enjoy going back and making sure they answered the question the problem posed. They are also working on triple and double digit addition and subtraction problems.
Science ~ We are finishing learning about the weather cycle. A big focus has also been on collecting weather data. We love experiments and have done one this week that demonstrated the weather cycle when we made rain in a jar.
Heart Month
LLS (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) Pennies for Patients
This year we are once again participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pennies for Patients Campaign. This event starts February 20th and will run through March 7th. Our goal this year is to raise $3,000. Each class will have a collection box in their classroom as well as an online donation page which will be sent to all parents via their class newsletter. We will KICK OFF our campaign by EVERYONE wearing as much ORANGE as possible on February 20th. Look for your child’s home collections box to come home on this day. This is helpful if parents would like to help in raising the funds through their contacts as well.

Bright Byte Survey
Parents of 3rd-5th grade students are invited to participate in an anonymous survey about technology use. Data from the survey will help us here at Blanton, as well as the district, to make technology decisions. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and your answers are very important to us. There are no right or wrong answers as everyone has different experiences. We appreciate your time and your ideas.
You can access the survey here (Bright Byte Survey for Parents) or on our school homepage.
Kinder Knights is Coming Soon ~ Please help us spread the word!
