I am here to work with families and students on their student’s plans for after high school. In my position, I will be focusing on supporting Mayde Creek students with the following things, to name a few:
- Assisting with applications for FASFA/TASFA (financial aid for school)
- Assisting with applications for postsecondary education
- Coordinating college, career or military preparedness tests
- Coordinating college events and military recruitment visits held on campus
- Partnering with our dual credit program to increase enrollment in these courses

Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC)
NJROTC is a Leadership and Character development program that works to instill in students the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. We emphasizes citizenship and leadership development as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by extra-curricular activities of community service, academic, athletic, drill and orienteering competitions, field meets, flights, visits to naval or other activities, marksmanship sports training, and physical fitness training. While we use the military and Navy format, the NJROTC program is not associated with military recruiting or recruiters. Only 5% of graduating seniors who participate in our program usually continue to enlist in the military or pursue military scholarships in college or the service academies. Most go on to success in college, vocational schools, or the workforce.
Other benefits include:
- Successful participation meets the Texas State Physical Education (PE) requirement
- Extra-curricular activities such as Drill Teams, Color Guard, Academic Team, Physical Training (PT) Team, Marksmanship Team, Orienteering Team, CyberPatriot Team, and Teen CERT.
- Opportunities for community and school service
- Promotes Patriotism, high school completion, higher education, community service, information on the military services as a possible career, and incentives to live healthy and drug free
- Develops informed and responsible citizens, respect for constructed authority, leadership potential, and a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, individual discipline and leadership, and teamwork
- Completion of 3 years in NJROTC leads to advanced promotion to the pay grade of E-3 in the Navy or Air Force upon initial enlistment and E-2 in the Army or Marine Corps
- Completion of 2 years in NJROTC leads to advanced promotion to the pay grade of E-2 in the Navy upon initial enlistment
If a student’s goal is to develop their skills of leadership, self-discipline, attention-to-detail, and physical fitness; NJROTC may be the program for them. They should contact their counselor and ask to enroll in NJROTC.
