Meet our NEW MCHS College and Career Facilitator!

My name is Helen Cochran and I am Mayde Creek High School’s College & Career Facilitator. This is a brand new position in Katy ISD and I am thrilled to be at The Creek!

I am here to work with families and students on their student’s plans for after high school. In my position, I will be focusing on supporting Mayde Creek students with the following things, to name a few:

  • Assisting with applications for FASFA/TASFA (financial aid for school)
  • Assisting with applications for postsecondary education
  • Coordinating college, career or military preparedness tests
  • Coordinating college events and military recruitment visits held on campus
  • Partnering with our dual credit program to increase enrollment in these courses

The best way to reach me is through my email: I can also be reached by phone in my office at 281-237-0534.

Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC)

NJROTC is a Leadership and Character development program that works to instill in students the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. We emphasizes citizenship and leadership development as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by extra-curricular activities of community service, academic, athletic, drill and orienteering competitions, field meets, flights, visits to naval or other activities, marksmanship sports training, and physical fitness training. While we use the military and Navy format, the NJROTC program is not associated with military recruiting or recruiters. Only 5% of graduating seniors who participate in our program usually continue to enlist in the military or pursue military scholarships in college or the service academies. Most go on to success in college, vocational schools, or the workforce.

Other benefits include:

  • Successful participation meets the Texas State Physical Education (PE) requirement
  • Extra-curricular activities such as Drill Teams, Color Guard, Academic Team, Physical Training (PT) Team, Marksmanship Team, Orienteering Team, CyberPatriot Team, and Teen CERT.
  • Opportunities for community and school service
  • Promotes Patriotism, high school completion, higher education, community service, information on the military services as a possible career, and incentives to live healthy and drug free
  • Develops informed and responsible citizens, respect for constructed authority, leadership potential, and a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, individual discipline and leadership, and teamwork
  • Completion of 3 years in NJROTC leads to advanced promotion to the pay grade of E-3 in the Navy or Air Force upon initial enlistment and E-2 in the Army or Marine Corps
  • Completion of 2 years in NJROTC leads to advanced promotion to the pay grade of E-2 in the Navy upon initial enlistment

If a student’s goal is to develop their skills of leadership, self-discipline, attention-to-detail, and physical fitness; NJROTC may be the program for them. They should contact their counselor and ask to enroll in NJROTC.

Mrs. Garduno met with Senior students in English classes on Friday, 9/3/21. If you were absent or did not receive a scheduled time, please stop by the Senior office (1401) to sign up.

Our goal is to have 100% of the Senior class in the yearbook!

In preparation for the new school year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on April 20 that all schools will be allowed to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of eligibility, through June 30, 2022. While meals are free to everyone, it is important to still fill out a Free and Reduced Meal Application, as you may qualify for other benefits and discounts. Additional benefits may include:

Pre-K programs
Use of musical instruments for band and orchestra
Career and Technical Education certification exams
Summer Meals

Summer school tuition
Advanced Placement exams
SAT and ACT test fees
College application fees
Career and Technical Education fees

Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Applications are available online at To deposit funds online for a la carte purchases, please visit Pay N’ Go.

In addition, to ensure Katy ISD qualifies for eligible funding from the state during the extended free meal period through June 2022, Katy ISD is asking all parents to complete the Socioeconomic Income Form two-part questionnaire in the Annual Student Update. Submitting the questionnaire information will support Katy ISD in qualifying for additional state dollars to support our students’ continued academic and personal success during the upcoming school year.

GPA Exempt Application Information

The 2021-22 GPA Exempt Application is now online. Students can access the application from My Katy Cloud. Simply search “GPA Exempt” and the tile will appear. Complete the application and submit. The deadline to submit is September 23, the end of the first 6 weeks. If all criteria are met, it will be approved and a course change will be made to reflect enrollment in a GPA Exempt course. Once the student makes the decision to take a course as GPA-exempt, the decision is final and cannot be changed. Students enrolled in full-year courses do not need to reapply during the second semester. Students, including move-in students, who miss the deadline for application for the first semester, may apply for exemption for the second semester if they meet the criteria.

Student Parking 2021-2022

We are still in the process of handing out student parking stickers. Do not worry if you have not received your parking sticker yet. Students will be able to park on campus until all parking stickers are given out without any violations. Students should continue to park in the front of the main building in the back section by thee road. Until you receive your parking sticker, do not park anywhere else on campus.

Click here to review student parking permit directions. When your sticker is ready to pickup the Junior Office will contact you.

Students are required to pay $40 for a student parking permit if they plan on parking on campus. Student parking registration is now open.
