A class of readers and leaders
9/15/14 What we are learning!
The italicized questions drive what we are learning. We will focus on these questions throughout the entire unit. The statements below are the student learning goals for the week.
Reading-
- We will be completing our Book Trailers this week. Be looking for these soon!
- Over the next few weeks we will be learning about 6 signposts that can help us think more deeply about reading. This week we will be introducing Contrasts & Contradictions and Aha Moments.
Writing-
- How do writers use various techniques to enhance their narrative writing?
- How do narratives unfold in a way that makes sense to the reader?
- With guidance, I can use the writing process to produce high quality writing pieces-- This week we are working on drafting. We will be working on choosing a quality idea and planning for that idea.
Math-
- How does a digit’s position affect its value?
- In what ways can operations affect numbers?
- How can different strategies be helpful when solving problems?
- I can recognize that each place to the left is ten times larger in a multi-digit number.
- I can recognize that each place to the right is 1/10 as much in a multi-digit number.
- I can illustrate and explain a pattern for how the number of zeros of a product – when multiplying a whole number by power of 10 – relates to the power of 10. (500 = 5 x 100) (and similarly for division, 500 ÷ 5 = 100
