A message from Dr. Jeff Hyatt, Superintendent
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Community Members:
As the school year comes to a close, I want to thank you all for your generous support of our students. We are fortunate to have exceptional staff, wonderful students, involved parents, and a community that believes that our highest priority is the education of our children.
As you know, the Board of Education will be asking for an operating increase on August 7th. I am thankful and appreciative of our staff, parents and community support so far of this important building improvement issue. We will do what it takes to deliver on our promises, inspire confidence in our decisions, and continue to support a quality education for all of our students.
As we head into the summer months, the maintenance department, faculty, staff, and I will be busy preparing for the upcoming 2018-19 school year—performing deferred maintenance, providing professional development opportunities, working on our accreditation challenges, and developing a plan for the proposed August 7th operating issue. The central office does operate during the summer months, and we will be available to assist you. Please do not hesitate to call if you have questions or need additional information. We are here to serve and support and are committed and dedicated to our school community.
Once again, I say thank you for a wonderful year, and I wish you a safe and restful summer. See you August 6th at our back to school celebration!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey L. Hyatt
SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION
Summer School Dates: May 21 - June 14
The Gainesville district is very excited about our summer school offerings for 2018. Summer school is available to students who want take part in enrichment and remedial activities. Summer School's theme this year is "The Great Outdoors", and we plan to offer more educational opportunities involving nature and fitness. We want to utilize our summer courses to enrich the opportunities and offer hands-on projects and activities to our students.
At the 9th-12th level, students will have multiple course selections to fit their schedules. Traditional seated classes will be offered as well as online courses. Drivers Education will be offered this year for students that are turning 15 years old by May 1st of this year. High school courses are set up in half and full credit options depending on the time available for each student’s summer schedule.
As we do each year, summer school students will have free breakfast and lunch every day. Bus transportation will be provided and routes will be similar to last school year. Summer school is open enrollment for all students, so students out of the Gainesville school district can attend free of charge.
Attendance incentives will be offered to students who attend 90% with an all-day field trip on the last day of summer school. This incentive will be available for K-12th grade students with 90% attendance. Please check out the information below for additional information.

CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2018!
GRADUATES BEGIN NEW TRADITION
This year, GHS Class of 2018 walked through the halls of Gainesville Elementary to bid one last farewell to the students and teachers in the building. The graduates were met with cheers and many high-fives as they passed by each elementary student. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and we hope this is a tradition that will continue to take place.
