The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from your principal, Mr. Kausch.
Greetings from Carleton!
Like many of our students, I tend to get a lot of my news and other information from social media sites. I am guilty of spending countless hours discerning whether or not information is factual, comes from a reliable source, or is completely false.
However, I did read a short article this week on how to use questioning techniques to talk with your child/student and I thought the summary was important enough to share.
Below are eight reflective questions to help any student think about their learning...enjoy!
1) What surprised you today, and why?
2) What's the most important thing you learned today? Why do you think so?
3) What do you want to learn more about, and why?
4) When were you the most creative, and why do you think that is?
5) What made you curious today? How does learning feel different when you're curious?
6) When were you at your best today, and why?
7) (Assuming we were studying the same thing and you could decide and have access to anything), where would you start tomorrow? Why?
8) What can/should you do with what you know?

Carleton Shuffle
We were very fortunate to have a spectacular day for our Carleton Shuffle. Thank you to our Boosters for setting up such a great event for our students. The last day to turn in pledges (to be entered into the prize drawing) will be Tuesday, October 4th. Remember, if every family donates $10, we will earn $7,000 for the benefit of our students. Please consider sending in a small donation that is tax deductible. Our students will thank you for your support!

In the midst of a busy week of teaching and learning in the classroom our students have also been learning outside of the classroom. Last Friday, some of our band members were able to spend some time with the Sterling Heights High School marching band and perform during the SHHS game (see pictures above). Our band students get to see the value of practice in their work everyday and their time performing with the high school provided further evidence as to how far you can go with practice and hard work. Great job Carleton band!
Our football and volleyball teams also got to learn about the value of resilience and determination. Both volleyball teams lost a game against Beer but rallied back to win 2-1. It was really a thrill to watch the girls refocus, support each other, and succeed. The 7th grade football team held tough in a 14-14 tie while our 8th grade football team held Beer to one touchdown in an 8-0 loss. Stop by one of our games in see Carleton students learning life lessons through sports.
