St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 5 | 20 MAY 2021
Come, O Holy Spirit.
Come as Holy Fire and burn in us,
come as Holy Wind and cleanse us within,
come as Holy Light and lead us in the darkness,
come as Holy Truth and dispel our ignorance,
come as Holy Power and enable our weakness,
come as Holy Life and dwell in us.
Convict us, convert us, consecrate us,
until we are set free from the service of ourselves,
to be your servants to the world.
Amen
From the Principal
Dear St Columba’s school community
We are so excited to open the new Pre-Primary nature playground today! It is amazing and the children have had so much fun exploring their new play area. This project is a great P&F achievement, who have raised the funds, selected the vendor and managed the installation to completion. The children are very fortunate and blessed.
It is now the halfway point of a long term and I am genuinely pleased by the continued dedication and focus of all staff and students.
A big congratulations to our Year 4W class on making their First Holy Communion. The Mass on Sunday was lovely and a wonderful reflection on the commitment of our faith. Thank you to Mrs Buiks for working so beautifully with our students and to all the staff that contributed to this occasion. The Year 6 students are preparing for their Confirmation and enjoyed a Retreat on Wednesday facilitated by 24:7 Youth Ministry. They reflected on the importance of the Holy Spirit and how we can use these gifts in our everyday lives. Please keep these students in your thoughts and prayers as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday May 22nd.
Thank you to Mr Leigh Chatt and staff for providing the latest sporting opportunity for our Year 5 and 6 students. These students proudly represented St Columba’s and participated in the CAPSS VANS Carnival on Tuesday where they competed in a number of games of Soccer, Netball, AFL and Volleyball. Well done to everyone!
This Friday, May 21 is the 30th anniversary of Josephite Sr Irene McCormack’s death whilst serving as a missionary in Peru after 25 years of service to Catholic Education in Western Australia. Born in the Wheatbelt town of Trayning, Sr Irene is our very own. A cause for celebration and an inspiration for our West Australian Catholic community. The link below is to a prayer video compiled by student leaders from four Catholic schools in Perth who reflect on the gift of Sr Irene’s life as a life offered for love of God and love for the poor of our world. I am especially proud of our representatives, Christian, Scarlett H and Scarlett C, and the way they have spoken so openly and honestly. As the young leaders powerfully suggest in the video, Sr Irene’s story is a life and legacy for all of us to honour and feel affirmed in our own calling to be followers of Christ in our everyday lives. I would like to invite our school community to reflect on this prayer video in remembrance of Sr Irene and all those who offer their lives for love in overseas missionary service, especially during these COVID-19 times. Please click on the movie link to access the prayer video, I hope you are moved as much as I was when I watched it.
God Bless
