KRS Library Year in Review
2018-2019
Reading Initiatives
This year students read books from The Adirondack Kids series and explored their own experiences as kids living in the Adirondacks. Through the generosity of our PTA, students each received their own copy of a book in the series to keep. Our wonderful month of reading concluded with a visit from the series' author Gary VanRiper and his wife, illustrator, Carol VanRiper. The VanRipers shared with us the secret to becoming a good writer - be a reader first!
Teams of third and fourth grade students participated in Battle of the Books this year. Students read ten books between September and February in order to participate in a regional competition with students from around the region. We are incredibly proud of the efforts of both teams who performed well and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship.
Our fourth grade team managed to take second place out of nineteen teams. It was a wonderful experience for all and we can't wait for next year's competition!
Since we are unable to do a summer book exchange this year, we conducted a library card drive in an effort to encourage our students to get to Crandall Library this summer and keep reading! Approximately 30 of our students now have their own brand new library cards to kick off summer reading. Hope to see you at Crandall!

"Where can I find a book like Percy Jackson?"
"I love reading funny books. Where are they?"
Stay tuned! It will soon be much easier for students to find what they're looking for independently. In an effort to help students find what they are interested in reading and expand their reading horizons, our fiction collection has been genrefied. Students will be able to browse through fantasy, science fiction, adventure, animal sections and more.
