Pink Out
PINK OUT for Mrs. Clark!
Fowler Falcons enthusiastically supported Breast Cancer Awareness this month with events benefitting our very own Jessica Clark, Skills for Living and Career Investigations Teacher. Pink Out events included the volleyball game between Fowler and Scoggins, which earned $700 in T shirt sales between the two campuses, and teacher jeans passes, which raised $586 for Mrs. Clark.
Mrs. Clark is a very special teacher here at Fowler, and we can't wait to welcome her back. Any contributions made to her Go Fund Me or her Meal Train accounts are so appreciated.

6th Grade
In sixth grade social studies students will continue their journey of learning around the world! We will focus on the geography, history and cultures of Latin America, culminating in a "Culture Pizza" project! We will then travel to Europe, where the focus with remain the same, with an emphasis on development of democracy.
In Science for the second nine weeks, we will begin with Chemistry! In our Chemistry unit, we will explore the physical and chemical properties of matter, as well as the Periodic Table. After we complete our Chemistry unit, we will move on to Astronomy! We will study the physical properties, locations, and movements of everything in our solar system. Finally, we will research the history and future of space exploration.
In 6th grade ILA, students will begin Unit 2 where they will read various texts and participate in book clubs that center around our essential question: “How do animals and humans interact?” Throughout the nine weeks, students will keep track of all of the human/animal interactions they read about, and they will use that evidence to create an expository essay project at the end.
In the 2nd 9 weeks, 6th grade math will explore rational number conversions, rates and ratios, and percentages. In Unit 5, students will learn how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents then learn how to use ratios to set up proportions. Students will also learn how to calculate unit rate and determine rates and ratios through graphs and tables. The Unit 5 test will be on the block day of Nov 10/11. The week before Thanksgiving break, we will start Unit 6 where students will learn how to calculate percentage of a number and use proportions to find missing values in real life percent situations. After Thanksgiving break, 6th graders will learn about financial literacy and we wrap up Unit 6 on the block day of Dec 8/9.
7th Grade
Texas history classes have been traveling back in time to the Spanish Colonial era from 1680-1760 and the Mexican National era. This past week, we traveled to the year 1821; Mexico has won independence from Spain, and Texas is now part of Mexico. Students will be learning about empresarios (such as Stephen F. Austin) who began colonization of Mexican Texas with settlers from the United States in Unit 3.
7th grade science students are gaining a deeper understanding of why cells are the basic unit of life. Students will be using the microscopes to delve further into cells. They'll wrap up the unit with a Cells Argument-Driven Inquiry Lab.
Math classes are beginning to study non-proportional linear relations. We will then move into percentages. Please involve our mathematicians as you budget for your holiday shopping and take advantage of those great discounts!
It's time for expository writing in ILA. All on-level and Pre AP ILA students will be writing expository essays that answer our Essential Question for Unit 2 which is, “How do we overcome obstacles?” We will be reading different texts that will help them gather evidence and support for their essays. Students are encouraged to read outside of class to expand their writing skills and vocabulary. Parents, don’t be afraid to ask them what they are currently reading and share your own reading choices with them.
8th Grade
In 8th grade math we are wrapping up Transformations on a Coordinate Plane and then jumping into Linear Relationships. The students will apply multiple situations to see what happens when we change the slope and y-intercept.
In 8th grade History, the students are continuing to learn how to write using supporting evidence. This is a wonderful cross-curricular opportunity for students as they use their writing skills from ILA in their history classes. Learners are using a document-based question essay to practice writing an assertion with supporting body paragraphs. Later in the week, learners will use their reading skills to investigate the Articles of Confederation.
Finally, our 8th grade Scientists are wrapping up their study of chemistry as our first grading period draws to a close, and will soon start their unit on physics. They will be learning to calculate speed, acceleration, velocity, and force. We are looking forward to lots of hands-on lab investigations!
