FORT WORTH ISD CELEBRATES 2021-22 SCHOLAR ATHLETES
Originally called the Academic Athlete Award, the Fort Worth ISD Scholar Athlete recognition was originated in 1984 by then-Board Trustee Dr. T.A. Sims. Dr. Sims saw a need to recognize outstanding athletes for their work in the classroom as well as on the playing field.
Now in its 38th year, the Scholar Athlete program recognizes student athletes from each middle and high school in the District. Two students – one male and one female –are chosen on the basis of their grade-point average (GPA) and their athletic participation, with an emphasis on the GPA. The criteria for the award are that the individuals recognized should have the highest GPA amongst all student athletes of their gender, at grade level, at a campus.
Click here for a complete list of Scholar Athletes for high school and middle school. Each of the 68 scholar athletes were recognized at the May 17 meeting.

NEW NORTHSIDE EATS FOOD PANTRY OPENS AT KIRKPATRICK MIDDLE SCHOOL
Kirkpatrick Middle School is leading the way to help feed its Northside community. A grocery-style food pantry called Northside Eats has officially opened in the school basement.
The three-year effort is now a reality thanks to the staff at Kirkpatrick Middle School, a partnership with Tarrant Area Food Bank, and a kind donation made by the nonprofit organization Community Meals.
Shoppers will be greeted at the Northside Eats food pantry with a colorful mural painted by art students from Kirkpatrick and Texas Christian University at the front door. Students helped install shelving units, unbox merchandise, and stock pantry shelves. Next year, a student organization will be created to lead the food pantry effort.
The grocery store-style food pantry is open three days a week with help from Kirkpatrick parents and Tarrant Area Food Bank volunteers, with extended hours two Saturdays per month. Adjusted summer hours of operation will be announced soon.
For more information about the Northside Eats food pantry, please contact Kirkpatrick Middle School at 817-814-4200.
