November 4, 2021
Thank you PTO Parents for wonderful Halloween parties. The students had a blast creating halloween mummies of all kinds, painting trick-or-treat bags, playing Halloween bingo, figuring out Halloween themed puzzles and so much more! THANK YOU for making this Halloween one to remember.
Veterans Day is November 11th. Please see a special opportunity below to honor a Veteran in your family. We have 17 veterans that we are honoring. I am hoping to have enough Veterans for each class to sponsor. Don't forget to sign your child up for the PTO FUN RUN for Wounded Warriors on Friday, Nov. 12th from 3:30-4:15. Information below under PTO.
Each month a different grade level participates in a community service project. Fourth grade's Service Project supported Phil's Friends in Roselle. Students donated earned money, via chores, to purchase fleece. The fleece was used to create comfy blankets for cancer patients. A Phil's Friends representative will visit Erickson 4th graders on Tuesday to say THANK YOU for creating and donating 33 fleece blankets, cards, and decorating 25 boxes to use for shipping.
Week of Gratitude will be replacing the Thanksgiving Feast this year. Please read information below on how Erickson will show gratitude and appreciation throughout the week of November 15-19.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments, or feedback. The best way to reach me would be via email or phone: sjohnston@sd13.org or 630-529-2223.
Please enjoy the rest of your week!

Week of Gratitude: November 15-19
During the Week of Gratitude, November 15-19, Erickson students will engage in a variety of activities in art, music, library and the classroom, that will remind us all to be grateful and appreciate others. This week will replace the traditional Erickson Thanksgiving Feast. Some of the activities during this week include:
Grateful Gallery Art Walk showcasing Erickson artwork
Singing songs of Gratitude & Thanksgiving in music class
Creating a "Showcase of Gratitude" in library class
Third grade will host a variety of community members throughout the week (police, fire department, retired Erickson teachers, paraprofessionals, etc.) before school and serve donuts, coffee and thanks! Student Council members will provide school tours.
During Eagle’s Nest on Friday, Nov. 19th, students will complete a Gratitude "Nest" project with their small groups.
Families can complete an optional 21 Day Family Gratitude Challenge. A copy of this challenge will be sent home FRIDAY with students. The challenge will be due December 1. Special Eagle Tickets will be rewarded to those students who complete the family challenge!
The PTO is sponsoring a collection for the Marklund Day School in Bloomingdale throughout the week of Nov. 15-19. See the flyer below to see what you can donate. Items can be brought in during the week of Nov. 15-19. Collection boxes will be in the lobby.

Covid Update
Siblings do not need to quarantine if a family member has symptoms: Siblings are now allowed to stay in school if family members have symptoms related to Covid, as long as the symptomatic individual is tested within 24 hours of onset of symptoms.
Covid Dashboard: Erickson will stop sending home the notification of COVID-19 positive cases as they arise. In many cases, this creates unnecessary anxiety for others. A dashboard has been placed on the Return to Learn website to document cases throughout the year and will be updated regularly to provide the most accurate information for the greater community. Click here to access the Covid Dashboard.
