Reminder: We do not have school on Monday, January 15th
Note from the Principal
Welcome Back!!! Well, 2018 is certainly starting off with a roar, not a whimper. I suppose you could say a Boone Bear Roar!!! It was so great to be back with the kiddos last week and see all of their wonderful faces. Boone is truly a special place to be. This Spring is full of many activities and will be jam packed with learning. I started out this year saying that, “It is Going to Be a Great Year.” I have since adjusted this to be, “It Is a Great Year.” And a great Spring it WILL be…
One of the challenges this month is the large number of students Middle of the Year, or MOY, assessments that we are required to do by AISD. While time consuming, these assessments do provide our teachers with a large amount of useful data on each student’s progress from the fall semester. All students in every grade will be undergoing some type of academic assessment this month. This data is crucial to us in helping determine where your child’s strengths are and to identify any possible areas that we may need to provide additional instruction. For our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, they will be taking benchmark tests that are very similar to the STAAR tests they will be taking later this spring. Pre-K students will be taking their middle of the year skills assessments and Kinder, 1st, and 2nd graders will also be taking math and reading assessments.
It is very important that your children be at school every day, but this is magnified even more so this month. More information on the specific testing dates for each class will be provided by your classroom teacher. If you have any questions about when to schedule a doctor’s appointment, etc., for your child, please communicate directly with your child’s teacher and please try to avoid these dates, if possible.
This is going to be a great Spring Semester!! I am excited about the great things we have in store for the children and the wonderful experiences your child with have with us!!!
