Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou e te whānau te Kura o Hato Pirihiti
What a week of wild winter weather we are having! I hope you are managing to keep warm and dry.
It was wonderful to connect with parents last week during our Learning Conversations. Thank you for your time meeting with teachers to discuss your child's or children’s progress and achievement. A special thank you to our teachers for the preparation and energy that goes into delivering effective conversations about student learning.
Our students and staff had a lot of fun dressing up in their favourite book character last Friday and there was a great buzz around the School. Check out the St Brigid’s Facebook page for fabulous photos showcasing a love for books and wonderful creativity! Thank you to Debbie Nguon for organising this opportunity for our students as well as running the Book Fair that was held in the Library last week. Thank you to whānau who supported the fair and purchased books. We are very grateful as a percentage of funds raised comes back to St Brigid’s to purchase material for our School Library.
School Donation for 2022 – $60 per student
As a decile 9 school, we receive less funding from the Ministry of Education per child than lower decile schools receive. As a result, we need to find other ways to fund all the programmes that we want to run for our children. That is why it is so important that we ask for a contribution from our parent community, and we are very grateful to those who are able to pay this contribution.
Our children and school benefit greatly from the contribution donated by families. We are able to offer a number of extra activities and programmes to complement our curriculum from the donations received. For example, your donation is used for arts and culture experiences, such as trips to the City Gallery, Te Papa and gymnastics / sports at the ASB Sports Centre. We are committed to providing excellent educational opportunities for our students.
Payment for these is very much appreciated as it enables us to provide rich learning opportunities for our students.
Payment Options
There are several ways that you can donate:
Automatic payment - Please see Lynne if you would like to know the amount to be paid weekly/fortnightly/monthly/termly for your child’s/children’s year group.
Internet banking - Please transfer funds to: St Brigid’s Operations Account 12-3041-0341681-00, with your child’s family name as the reference.
Cash - Please hand it to a member of staff in the office where a receipt will be issued.
Please note that school donations qualify for a tax rebate. Here is information about the process of getting a tax rebate for your donation. Please request a donation receipt through the school office.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.
Have a great week and God bless,
Ngā manaakitanga

Artsplash! 2022
We are really looking forward to performing as part of the Artsplash! Performance coming up shortly.
We will perform at the Michael Fowler Centre on Monday, 12 September at 5.00pm
(we have a rehearsal that day as well during school time so we will bus into town for this)
The students are putting in a huge effort to learn the songs and sound fantastic.
Rehearsal:
On Monday 12 September we will be travelling by bus to the Michael Fowler Centre for a full rehearsal. The bus will leave school at 8:55am so it is important that everyone is at school on time. We will meet in the library at 8:40am.
What to wear:
Your child will be given a red and white school choir T-shirt on Monday when we return from the rehearsal in town. This T-shirt is to be worn to the concert with black trousers or leggings. Please do not put a singlet underneath the T-shirt as it is very warm on stage. Please return it to Monika Goel in Room 10 by Friday 16 September.
Shoes – any comfy flat shoes.
We suggest that they wear a jersey or jacket to the concert and parents are asked to hold on to them during the concert.
Where to meet:
Children will assemble downstairs in the area to the left of the main toilet block between 4:15pm and 4:30pm
After the performance we will bring the children back to this same area to meet parents.
Tickets:
$5.00 each. There is a limited number of tickets so there is a limit of 4 per family. You do not need to buy one for your singer/s
Payment is to be made by internet banking only. The school bank account number is 12-3041-0341681-00. Please add your child’s name and Artsplash as reference. Once payment is received, tickets will be issued to students to take home.
See you at the concert!

Senior Kapa Haka - St Brigid's Festival 2022
Kia ora koutou e te whānau
A friendly reminder that our Senior kapa Haka (Years 5-8) will be performing at the St Brigid’s Kapa Haka Festival on Saturday 24 September. Amesbury will be hosting the festival this year which will be held at Onslow College. It looks like we will be performing in the afternoon but I will confirm once more information comes out. This is a very special occasion for our school and we encourage as many friends and whānau as possible to come and support this event.
I will be doing costume fittings in the coming weeks. It would be great if I could have one or two parent helpers for this. This would take place from 9.00am - 12.00pm Please email tania@stbrigids.school.nz if you are able to help. Date to be confirmed for fittings.

We are one of three schools chosen to send a group of students to have a special role in the Mass.
Everyone is welcome to attend, from anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Details will be posted on the website of Te Ara a Maria (Mary’s Way): https://www.tearaamaria.nz/ The Mass will be live-streamed, with details on the site.
Te Ara a Maria: livestream link and Thank You
Thank you to those who have contributed flowers made by your children for the ceremony this Sunday as we dedicate our National Shrine to Mary. They look wonderful and I can see the effort and aroha that went into making them. They will be taken up and placed on the altar for the Mass by children from St Francis Xavier, St Brigid’s and St Peter Chanel Otaki schools.
If you or your families are not able to make the Mass in person but would like to participate the event will be live-streamed. You can use www.tearaamaria.nz/livestream to access the link.
