NBCNY's Virtual Educator Summit: Fostering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

NBCT Recognition Event

On behalf of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and New York State Education Department (NYSED), we invite you to join us for a virtual event recognizing NY’s newest National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) on April 5, 2022 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. We will hear remarks from NYSUT Executive Vice President Jolene DiBrango, Commissioner Betty Rosa, Chancellor Lester Young, Regent Roger Tilles, and National Board for Professional Teaching Standards President and CEO, Peggy Brookins. José Vilson, NBCT, NBPTS Board of Directors, will offer closing remarks. This event will be live streamed and a recording will be viewable after the event. Candidate reimbursement for candidates who completed in December 2021 is open!

After a candidate completes the National Board process, the candidate will be reimbursed for the cost of their first component paid for out of pocket provided that the candidate did not receive any form of reimbursement for their first component from any source.


To receive reimbursement once the reimbursement period is open, the candidate must submit a written request via email for reimbursement to shankergrant@nysed.gov. Include the following:

  • Name
  • Candidate ID #
  • year the grant was received


The candidate will receive a voucher with instructions to be completed and returned via mail. A check will then be issued from NYSED. This process may take up to 6 weeks for completion.


NOTE: Reimbursement is open ONLY for candidates who completed the National Board certification process in 2021.
