Practice Log Make-Opportunity!
Was it #6 or #7?
If so, follow the normal procedure for making up a missed log (pull all minutes on the next Log (PL #8 is due before midnight on May 4) as one total so I know to roll them back).
Was it #1, #2, #3, #4, or #5?
If so, you have a one-time opportunity to make up ONE (1) missed log (which will end up effecting your grade by as much as 3 points at the end of the semester)!! Here's what you do:
- Show up ON TIME to the Spring Concert that you're NOT playing in (Black and Gold, Concert, and Symphonic: come to the concert on May 18; Philharmonic and Chamber: come to the concert on May 17).
- Get a concert program from the ushers.
- Write your thoughts/reflections/observations on the program as you listen.
- Turn in your program to Mrs. Betts with your thoughts THE NEXT SCHOOL DAY (Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras: you can leave it with me before you go home from the banquet on 5/17 OR you can bring it to me before finals begin on Monday, May 21)
- I will evaluate the content on your program and will assign it a grade (so write several thoughtful remarks for each performing group). If you write short, unclear bullet points, you won't get much credit (remember, this is making up for an assignment that should have take your 4 hours to complete.... so not putting effort into the make up will DEFINITELY not earn you full credit).
Seniors: Continuing in Fine Arts after graduation? Register for Signing Day 2018
Attention Parents of SENIORS!
Instead of sending in individual files of pictures, please make a powerpoint slide for your senior's accomplishment and email it to me at paige_betts@gwinnett.k12.ga.us!
see example below! (send it in .ppt format, please!)
Last Chance!!!!!
Make up a missed assignment!
For any PRACTICE LOG missed, numbers 1-5, I will take UP TO TWO logs for UP TO 50% credit:
- Practice 240 minutes for up to TWO practice logs missed
- Write the total number of minutes practiced on a sheet of paper with the number(s) of the Practice Log(s) to which they will be applying the minutes (I will NOT accept any emails or practice log submissions on the form). If you are submitting for more than one log, please list them separately on the same sheet of paper before turning it in.
- Get a parent/guardian signature on your sheet-- no sheets will be accepted without parent/guardian signatures. Parents/Guardians: by signing these sheets, you are saying that you have heard your student practicing these minutes.
- As stated previously, I will also give ONE make up opportunity for FULL credit. In order to receive this, students should attend the May concert in which they are NOT performing and write some comments on the program. These are due the following school day (no extensions can be made)
- Turn in the sheet by 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. NO sheets will be accepted after 2:30 pm on May 15.
For any DAILY REHEARSAL GRADE missed, Week 1-18:
- Students will go to eClass or to http://mvhsorchestra.weebly.com/make-up-assignments.html and find the directions to the make-up assignment. Pay close attention to the formatting (font, size, and spacing) requirements listed in the directions.
- Students will complete the make-up assignment as instructed and will turn them in to the dropbox on eClass by 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
- These assignments will be graded, as always, for content and grammar, and students may receive up to 50% credit for class dates missed before Spring Break (Weeks 1-12) and up to 100% for dates afterwards.
For any CONCERT missed, Pre-LGPE, LGPE, or Chamber Music Project:
- Students will go to eClass or to http://mvhsorchestra.weebly.com/make-up-assignments.html and find the directions to the make-up assignment. Pay close attention to the formatting (font, size, and spacing) requirements listed in the directions.
- Since Pre-LGPE and LGPE were back in February, students completing make up assignments for these concerts will receive UP TO 50% credit. Students needing to make up the Chamber Music Project Performance will receive up to 100% credit if the make up assignment is turned in by Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2:30 pm, and up to 50% credit after that time.
- Students will complete the make-up assignment as instructed and will turn them in to the dropbox on eClass by 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
- These assignments will be graded, as always, for content and musical merit.
The Concert on May 17th or 18th will count as a Performance grade (and hopefully a last-minute grade boost!). This semester, the Performance Final grade was the Performance part of the Chamber Music Project.
I truly want every single student to get an A in orchestra, so this is my effort to get as many people there as I possibly can. Due to the timeline and the extreme time extension of this effort, however, I cannot accept ANY late make up assignments. Once again, ALL make-up assignments (except for Practice Log #9) are due by 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them via email at paige_betts@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
