Principal's Message
ELK Family,
I want to take some time and share with you what the BHS/BISD #1 Goal is for the 2017-2018 school year:
Increase the number of students "meeting grade level" in Reading and Writing by 10 percentage points.
Since teachers and students arrived at BHS in August, we have been reviewing data, having conversations, and planning with our #1 Goal as our first priority. Our entire staff (all subjects) has had a relentless FOCUS on our goal since the first day of school and has built their daily lessons around reading, writing and applicable strategies. This FOCUS varies in all subjects and includes the English department utilizing a curriculum (SPRINGBOARD by College Board) that is raising the RIGOR in the classroom in regards to Reading and Writing. This raised level of work with results will better prepare all of our students to be "College & Career Ready." We have not completed our work toward our #1 Goal, but we are excited about what we have accomplished to this point.
Everyday we ask students questions about Reading and Writing in the classroom. In a recent STUDENT VOICE session, a group of students shared with me their experiences in the classroom and the increased FOCUS on Reading and Writing. We will continue to execute our plans toward our #1 Goal.
Parents, please take time and ask your child about our #1 Goal.
Thanks for your Support!
Go ELKS!!
