Principal's message
Dear Families,
We are now in the heart of the Fall school season and overall, I am pleased with our progress and excited for what lies ahead. We have several big events upcoming including, Parent/Teacher conferences, The Book Fair, The Read a Thon and our holiday parade. I want to give a shout out to our newly formed PTO who has been busy ensuring we are attending to the family and community atmosphere that is a tradition at Tuck and was difficult to maintain during all of the speed bumps over the past 18 months.
When you attend conferences you will get a chance to partner with your child's teacher to learn how they are doing and where they are at socially, emotionally and academically at school. You will receive specific math and reading scores and data that show where your child's strengths and opportunities for growth are. Teachers will be able to provide you with many suggestions and resources for at home practice that can help bridge any gaps that have occurred due to lost instruction over the past two years. I urge you to celebrate your child's hard work and focus on the can-do attitudes that will help them build confidence and overcome any current gaps in learning.
Our staff has worked hard to design supports that help meet the needs of all children. Please reach out if you have any questions or need support. We will always do our absolute best to support you and your child.
Thanks for all of your support of your child and our school! John Tuck is a special school community because of the collective focus on serving kids and supporting each other!
Respectfully,
Dusty Porter
Gylling’s Greeting
Happy November! I hope you and your family are enjoying the cooler weather and beautiful leaves.
It is during this month that we reflect on our blessings and all we’re grateful for. It is also a great time to teach kids about gratitude and how to show/express it. If you’re looking for a unique way to do this as a family, check out this 30-Day Gratitude Calendar. There are a variety of fun activities that you can pick/choose to do as a family.
This month, our lessons will focus on the character trait of Responsibility. Learning responsibility is a life-long lesson and equipping kids with necessary tools will help them be successful in school and life. The picture to the left has great talking points. I encourage you to discuss these with your child(ren) at home.
HOLIDAY MEAL DRIVE
We are focusing our food drive on healthy and filling foods from all five food groups. Only non-perishable food in sturdy packaging (cans, boxes, bottles – no glass!) No open packages, expired food, or homemade goodies, please.
We are also collecting coins and cash to go towards a gift card for each family to purchase perishable items (fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, etc.) for their holiday meal. The drive begins on Monday 11/29 and ends on Friday 12/10.
Please use the donation wish list as a guide & help us if you CAN!
