A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
It’s already March! Time flies when you’re having fun and learning. Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday at FAB Friday. Green Eggs and Ham won favorite book by a landslide! Do you remember your favorite Dr. Seuss book?
I attended a parent meeting this week where a Neuroscience Coach and the Principal presented on the effect technology is having on children and their brains. I have found myself thinking about it all week! Here are some things I encourage you to ponder:
- Do you have phone free zones at your house? Dinner table, upstairs, bedtime/bedrooms.
- Did you know since 2003, there has been a huge increase in teenagers being diagnosed with ADHD and Anxiety that is correlated with technology/screen time?
- Do you monitor the amount of screen time your child has daily?
- Try saying, “I noticed…” to get your child to talk to you about their day and how they are feeling. For example: I noticed your tennis shoes have mud on them. I noticed you’re smiling today. I noticed your backpack is heavy. This one is really working for me at home and school. I love it!
Mrs. Samide is working on mindfulness activities at school too. Ask your child to show you some things they’ve learned. The best one is deep breathing from sitting mountain. Have them teach you.
Kudos to our 3rd graders for working so hard on ISTEP! They have next week off and then will take IREAD3 the week of March 12th. Our 4th graders will be taking ISTEP next week. Please make sure they are well rested, have a protein filled sugar free breakfast, and are here every day on time. It’s challenging to do all of this testing in the weeks right before spring break. Thanks for encouraging them to do their best every day from here to March 16th!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Harrison

A Message from Your School Counselor
I want to thank the parents of our 3rd graders for sending your kiddos well-rested and fed this week. We had a successful week of testing. 4th grade will test next week so encourage them to rest up and have some protein for breakfast.
Right after spring break, I will begin my last round of small groups for the year. Now is the time to sign up! I will be offering groups on social skills, study skills, dealing with worry and family dynamics. Contact me if you feel your child could benefit.
