Hello Wonderful Jenkins Family,


It is hard to believe that our summer vacation is beginning to wind down! I am thrilled to welcome you and your child to Jenkins Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year.


You may have some questions regarding the start of the school year. To ensure that we keep an open line of communication, I wanted to share some information with you regarding the upcoming start to our school year, which you will find in this newsletter.


As a reminder, the first day of school for students is on Monday, August 23rd. The instructional day is from 9:15 am to 3:55 pm.

School Supplies

School Supplies

Jenkins Elementary has purchased school supplies for all students attending Jenkins for the 2021-2022 school year. Students will receive their supplies and devices on the first day of school. Students will need to bring a backpack to school. Parents of in-person students will receive a device agreement that will need to be signed and returned to school.


For students who are participating virtually, we will distribute school supplies and devices during our "Meet the Teacher" Open House, which is currently scheduled for Friday, August 20th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

School Supplies

Breakfast and Lunch is Free for All Students!

Breakfast and lunch is offered free of charge to all students during the 2021-2022 school year. Families from Jenkins Elementary will not need to complete the free and reduced lunch application for this school year.

Face Mask/Face Coverings in School

Currently, the guidance from Prince William County Schools is that all staff, students, and visitors are required to wear face masks or face coverings while inside the school building, regardless of vaccination status. This is following the recommendations set forth by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Please take a look at the graphic below for more information.

"Meet the Teacher" Open House Tentative Plan and Date

Your child's teacher will reach out early next week with a welcome back letter to include your child's classroom number and a Zoom link for our Virtual "Meet the Teacher" Open House for families who are unable to attend in person and our Virtual Only families.


The schedule of our in-person "Meet the Teacher" Open House on Friday, August 20th is:


  • Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and Second Grade - 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade - 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.



The purpose of our "Meet the Teacher" Open House is for you and your child to be able to meet your child's teacher. Please wear face masks when visiting Jenkins. Also, parking is limited, so please be sure to stick to the schedule above to ensure a smooth process.


If your child will be a car rider, please stop by the front office to complete a car rider registration form to receive your car rider number. Please stop by our PTO table and consider partnering with us this school year by joining.


For families who are unable to attend in person, our Virtual "Meet the Teacher" Open House is on Friday, August 20th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.


If any information changes, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Webinars for the Fall Return to Learn Plan

We will be hosting a webinar on Thursday, August 12th at 6:00 p.m. to provide our families with information about the 2021-2022 school year in Prince William County. All families are welcome to attend.
