SOPHOMORE RINGS
Next week, sophomore students will be receiving ring packets. In AEAST, they will have the opportunity to see some short videos about the rings and also information on how to go about ordering one if they would like to do so. Be on the lookout for this envelope.
iREADY TESTING FOR FRESHMEN STUDENTS Next, Wednesday, October 21, our freshmen students will be taking their iReady tests from 8:00 - 11:00 AM. Students that requested transportation that day should be at their bus stop at their regular time. There will be drinks/snacks provided for students, but they are welcome to bring their own snacks if they prefer. Students should get a good night’s sleep and bring their Chromebook and earbuds with them for the testing.
PSAT PRACTICE TESTS PSAT testing was held this week and we know that everyone was not able to be here for the testing day. While this is a practice test for the SAT, and sophomores will get a chance to take it again next fall as juniors, we also wanted to provide students with an opportunity to take additional practice tests if they would like. Here is the web address to be able to print more practice tests: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice/full-length-practice-tests
DRESS FOR SUCCESS
There have been a few concerns about some of the attire students are wearing at home while attending Google meets classes remotely. Please be dressed appropriately for class whether you are in person or home.
PARENT NIGHT
Our first Parent Night is set for Wednesday, October 21, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM on a Zoom Meeting. A Zoom invite through a PowerSchool blast will be sent next week. The agenda will include:
Staffing Updates
Building Goals for 2020-21
Parent Meeting Dates for the Year
AEAST/ADVISORY Programming Information
Student Fall Check-In Survey Results
Parent Q & A
STUDENT MEETINGS
Next week, the Building Leadership Team will host two student meetings, one for each cohort. These meetings will be held in the Auditorium with socially distanced seating and they will be held during AEAST. Interested Cohort A students are invited to join us on Monday, October 19. Interested Cohort B students are invited to join us on Thursday, October 22. Fully remote students are encouraged to email an administrator and we will respond. Students can share questions, concerns, or ideas.
SENIOR T-SHIRTS - VIDEO
Next week, during all lunches, Mr. Huntington will be in the Main Lobby to capture a short clip of any senior in their Senior T-Shirt. Cohort A can do this on Tuesday, Cohort B can do it on Friday. Cohort C students can come either day - come to the Main Entrance and let us know you are here and Mr. Huntington will come outside to film you as well! The plan is to put together a short video of everyone to share with families!
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
On Thursday, October 22, from 2:45 - 5:15, we will have our second night of conferences. Since we ran out of phone lines on October 8 (who would have thought!!), we have modified our plan for round two! If you scheduled a conference through Conference Manager you will need to fill out a form that was sent out today which asks for you to include the name of the teacher you have the conference with and the phone number(s) that you would like the teacher to call at the start of the conference. Teachers will be calling the number through a Google Meets, so you should expect an out of state number to be calling you.
AM AND PM TRAFFIC UPDATES AND REMINDERS
Cars may use the bus loop ONLY in the morning, not in the afternoon when busses are going through. Since we are finding that the Gorham Road access is not being utilized, we will be closing down that option. Cars are still able to use the parking lot drop off as well.
MARCH 2020 DANCE REFUNDS
Since the March Dance was cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus, we are offering refunds for students who paid to go to the dance. If you want your refund, please see Mrs. Sprague in Admin I. She has a list of students who bought a ticket, but if you still have your ticket, it will make the refund faster.
UPDATE TO THE GOVERNOR’S ORDERS
On Tuesday, October 6, Governor Janet Mills announced that Maine is entering Stage 4 of our reopening plan, providing updated language on mask wearing and indoor space gathering capacity. Here are some items that pertain to schools:
Beginning on Tuesday, October 13th, indoor group size limits will increase from the current 50 people to a maximum of 100 people in any one area, room, or space (up to 50% capacity of the room - or 100 in total…...whichever is fewer). This expansion of allowable capacity only applies where people are still able to maintain distancing and only in situations where seating is provided and people are required to be seated. So, it is possible that schools could expand cafeteria capacity or hold larger gatherings in spaces with larger capacity - just as long as everyone is seated and masks are worn and physical distancing is maintained.
If not everyone will be seated, the 50-person indoor gather limit applies.
Cloth face coverings that cover nose and mouth are recommended, for children ages 2-4, and are required for all people age 5 and up in all school settings, both public and private.
Face coverings (cloth facemasks) must be worn in all publicly accessible areas of schools and everywhere on school grounds (parking lots, playgrounds, walkways, entryways, etc. In other words, students should have their mask on when they exit their vehicle and keep it on until they get back into their vehicle. Students taking the bus should have a mask on while waiting for the bus and during the ride.
At this time, SHS is not going to change the plans we have in place. Things are going smoothly and we have made accommodations that are working and we do not see a need to change them at this point.
PLEASE NOTE:
If a student at SHS takes a COVID-19 test, results must be provided to the Health Services Staff prior to returning to school or school related activities.
Please remember to:
Pre-screen before coming to school
Wash or sanitize your hands often
Keep your distance
Wear you mask properly
Be safe and be well!
