4 Generations of computars

COMPUTERS TIMELINE

The first generation of computars

The first generation was developed by two men named Mauchly & Echert at the census department of united states in 1947. The first generation computers were used during 1942-1955. They were based on vacuum tubes. Examples of first generations computers ARE ENIVAC & UNIVAC-1.

The second Generation of computars

The second generation computers used transistors. The scientists a bell laboratories developed transistors in 1947. The scientist include John Barden, William Brattain and William Shockley. The size of the computers as decreased by replacing vacuum tubes with transistor.

The Third generations of computars

The Third generation used the integrated circuits. Jack Kilby developed the concept of integrated circuit in 1958. It was an important invention in the computer field. The first IC was invented and used in 1961. The size of an IC is about 1/4 square inch.

Input and output Devices

Input devices allows us to enter raw data into a computer. The computer processes the data and then produces outputs that we can understand using output device. Input devices can be manual or automatic.

Ram & Rom

Rom

Rom is memory that cannot be changed by a program or user . Rom retains its memory even after the computer is turned off. For example , Rom stores the instructions for the computer to start up when it is turned on again .

Ram

Ram is a fats type of memory in which program , applications and data are stored. For example of what's stored in Ram

1. the operating system

2. applications

3. the graphical user interface
