USD #416 Continuous Learning-Week 1
March 30-April 5
Dear Wildcat Family,
Several other quick notes:
1) The April 7th Bond Election has been postponed until a later date. At this time, we do not have a new date selected.
2) The Grab-and-Go lunches/breakfasts are for any student. There is no free or reduced requirement. Everyone, regardless of income, is welcomed and encouraged to stop by BES and grab a lunch and breakfast.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brian R. Biermann
Superintendent of Schools
We are Wildcat Ready!
Wildcat Families,
In a time of uncertainty, I have never been more confident about one thing. If there is a community and a school district that can make Continuous Learning work, it is LOUISBURG! I have been both proud and amazed at the efforts of our administrators and staff once the announcement was made that education for the remainder of the school year in Kansas was going to look different.
It is important that you know that our employees are also parents and caregivers. We feel the same apprehensions and anxieties as you. We recognize families and caregivers are partners with us in ways never before expected. Many of you may not feel ready to facilitate your child’s learning. We are here to help by offering our expertise and time to provide learning opportunities which are accessible and respectful of the many demands on families. "YOU CAN DO THIS!"
Our goal is that this site will be your "Launching Pad" to gain district updates, school information and your students' upcoming weekly assignments. We will publish this site every Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
Here are the guidelines of the time you should expect your student to spend on school-offered learning opportunities each day, Monday-Friday.
Pre-K : 30 minutes
Grades K-1: 45 minutes
Grades 2-3: 60 minutes
Grades 4-5: 90 minutes
- Grades 6-12: 15-20 minutes per teacher (3 hours max in a day)
In addition, our educators will communicate with their students to reconnect them to school and to continue the relationships they have built over the last three quarters. To do this, educators will be using a variety of learning platforms such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Google Classroom, online textbooks, e-mail, personal phone calls and more.
To our Wildcat students you need to know that, “YOU ARE MISSED!” As we cleared out the buildings, emptied lockers and handed out learning materials to you and your parents/caregivers our hearts went out to each of you. Whether you’re a three year old at Circle Grove or a senior that was counting the days to walking across the stage, "YOU ARE MISSED!"
To the community of Louisburg we say, “Thank you!” Your support has inspired us. The spirit of Louisburg will help each of us work to meet the challenges of our new, but temporary, normal.
This is a learning process for all of us and it is important that you know we all want to do our best. Please communicate with us. We understand that this will not be perfect at first, but we will get better each day and every week as we push ahead.
Wildcat Proud,
Dave Tappan, Ed.S.

Kindergarten Enrollment-There's Still Time!
If you or someone you know has a 5 or 6 year old that will be entering kindergarten next year, there is still time to fill out an enrollment form! We have changed the process a bit and have outlined that on our tab on the district website. You may now download the forms, fill them out, and email them back to us! Quick and easy! Here is the link to the website: https://www.usd416.org/vnews/display.v/ART/58836c8ca0c98. Please return these by Friday, April 17th. Thank you!
If you have already turned in a kindergarten enrollment form, no need to do it again! In addition, because of the stay at home order, kindergarten enrollment has been postponed. We will NOT be having sessions on April 9th and 10th. As soon as we know more about local and national Covid-19 recommendations, we will begin scheduling these sessions. So hold tight! We are excited and anxious to welcome our new class of Wildcats, the class of 2033!!

What will that work look like? Like all high school classrooms, the work will vary greatly based on the layout of the classroom and the class that is being taken. Some examples will be daily assignments, weekly assignments, and even long term assignments. Remember, those assignments will still average out to approximately 20 minutes a day, even if the assignment may take 2 weeks. At the high school level, students have been managing this all along, and now is where these skills come into effect. This isn’t something to be feared. They got this.
