End of First Quarter

Friday, October 8th was the last day for first quarter and report cards are being distributed this week. We wanted to remind you that tutoring is available after school in the library and students have access to a live tutor for any subject 24 hours a day. Just log in to Powerschool and click on Live Tutor! You can choose to chat with a tutor or speak with them live. We hope all of our students will take advantage of this amazing resource.

Families, if you would like to speak to your student's teachers, please log in to Powerschool and you can email them directly by clicking their name. In addition, if you would like to have a conference with multiple teachers, please contact Ms. Bleicher at sbleicher@avhsd.org.

College Awareness

Remember every Wednesday is College Day!

Please help dispel this college myth: Colleges need students so its easier to be admitted.

FALSE!

Most private colleges and most state-supported colleges and universities get more qualified applicants than they could possibly accept. While some colleges are having difficulty attracting students, many of these have chosen to get smaller rather than admit unqualified students. Some colleges have lowered their standards, but this also can be a problem for you. The admissions standards might have been lowered, but what a college and its faculty expect of students might not have changed. If you are a border-line student at a college that has lowered standards, you have a good chance of getting in over your head.
