Confederate soldiers dead on Miller Farm, possibly from Starke’s Louisiana Brigade, with the North Woods in the distance and the Hagerstown Pike to the right.

The battle of Antietam, also known as Sharpsburg was the first and bloodiest known civil war battle and it all happened in one day. The battle occurred on September 17, 1862. This bloody and short battle took place near Shapsburg in Maryland, and Antietam creek as part of the Maryland campaign.
