It's Flu Season - Please Call Us...
Please remember to call the Attendance Office at 619-593-5333 to excuse any student absences. Students that stay home without a parent notifying the school are marked as truant. Excessive truancies may lead to students being placed on the Loss of Privilege list.
We Have a New Counselor!
Please welcome Rachel Alnas to our amazing counseling staff. Rachel previously worked at Granite Hills High School and is excited to finally become a Norsemen.
Ms. Alnas will be working with students with last names A - Ba. You can stop by the counseling office to say, "hi" or email her at ralnas@guhsd.net.
The Positive Impact of Homework
Homework is a way for students to practice what they've learned in school. Besides the impact it has on learning, homework can help students develop one of life's most important skills: self-regulation.
- Homework helps students with time management, planning and organization.
- Homework should be done independently and teaches students how to persist on their own. Moving forward through challenges also helps develop a positive mindset.
- Homework demands students learn how to focus. With television, music and cell phones, it's easy for students to become distracted.
- Homework should be reflective; students become aware of which learning strategies are working for them and what they can do to elevate their learning.
You can help your students develop these life skills, and with their studies, by making sure they have an environment free from distractions when completing homework. Younger students may need help organizing their time and staying focused. You can create a schedule for them and set limits on using their cell phone. Feel free to contact your alpha counselor for more ideas to support student learning.
Let's finish this semester strong!
