Barre Blast

Greetings from RLS!

As the calendar turns to 2016, we, as a school department, start planning for and discussing the 2016-2017 school. The first step in this planning is to create a budget that serves our children and meets the needs of all of the communities within the Quabbin Regional School District.

Each individual school department creates their own budget which is then presented to School Committee. The Ruggles Lane budget will be discussed at our upcoming School Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday, January 20th. All school departments then work together to make revisions to those budgets as needed so that we can present a district-wide budget that is fiscally responsible.

As community members, you are invited to participate in this process. The following message comes from the School Committee and highlights the schedule of upcoming meetings: "The QRSD School Committee will be holding a series of open meetings in an effort to continue to make the FY17 school budget development process an open and transparent process. We invite all concerned town officials, parents and residents to attend any or all of these meetings. At these meetings, principals at all grade levels, as well as other program managers, will discuss budget needs and describe the current status of educational (academic, co-curricular, athletic, etc.) programs.

The meetings will take place in the Educational Support Center located at 872 South Street, Barre, MA on the following dates:

  • Thursday, January 21, 6:30 p.m. - discussion of Plant and Facilities, Student Services, and Technology
  • Thursday, January 28, 2016, 6:30 p.m. - discussion of Elementary Schools, Middle School, and High School
  • Thursday, February 11, 2016, 6:30 p.m. - discussion of Central Office, Athletics, and culmination of FY17 budget
  • Thursday, February 25, 2016, 7:00 p.m. - Full School Committee meeting with primary focus on budget
  • Thursday, March 10, 2016, 6:30 p.m. - Public Budget Hearing to take place prior to full Committee meeting

Official agendas will be posted in accordance with the Open Meeting Law before each individual meeting."

I will use this forum as well as the School Advisory Council meetings to continue to keep you updated throughout this process. If you have any questions or concerns or something to share, please do not hesitate to give me a call, send an email or stop by!

An Important Drop-off Reminder

A reminder that the drop off time for any child being driven to school is 8:20. Children should not be dropped off prior to this time as there is no supervision available. Please do not drop your children off to wait under the clock tower. The only children who should be waiting under the clock tower are those who are with their parents. Children should not be dropped off until 8:20. We appreciate your cooperation with this important safety procedure.

Those students and families who join us are having a blast with our weekly Walking Wednesdays. If you would like to join us, meet us on the front lawn of the Barre Police Department at 8:00 for an 8:05 departure. Parents do not have to join us; we just ask that you check in with a staff member prior to leaving.

The PTO would greatly appreciate any and all donations of Box Tops. This is a quick and easy way for your family to raise money for all of the amazing activities the PTO offers to our students. Bundles of 50 in a ziploc bag would be appreciated. Thank you for your support!
