WHAT ARE SCHOOL-COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS?
Educating 55,000 students across 71 campuses, Garland ISD ranks as the second-largest district in Dallas County, fifth-largest in Dallas-Fort Worth, 15th-largest in Texas, and is among the 75-largest in America. Celebrating a rich, 100-year tradition of excellence, GISD boasts a diverse population that speaks more than 100 languages, technology-driven campuses, magnet programs, and approximately 200 Career and Technical Education courses.
We understand that we succeed, together.
School-community partnerships are a shared responsibility and reciprocal process whereby schools and other community agencies and organizations engage schools in meaningful and culturally appropriate ways, and schools take the initiative to engage partners actively. These partnerships are created to support students and staff at our 71 Garland ISD campuses.
According to TEA, the Vision of the Community Partnerships initiative is to support significant improvements in educational and developmental outcomes for children in a feeder pattern of schools by providing access to great schools in supported and supportive communities.
The ultimate goal is to build community strength and provide families in a feeder pattern with effective schools and access to high-quality coordinated programs for social service, health, and academic support. TEA has identified four systems of practices for turning around struggling schools and communities.
I. Diagnosing and Aligning the Initiative Across a Feeder Pattern
II. Effective Schools and Academic Programs Improvements
III. Purposely Engaging Families in Grades PreK-12
IV. Engaging Strong and Intentional Partnerships

CURRENT PROJECTS
The GRS Giving Room
The GRS Giving Place provides school supplies, backpacks, uniforms, socks, undergarments, and hygiene items to students experiencing homelessness or extreme economic hardships.
These supplies help students with some of their basic immediate needs. Since opening its doors in 2013, the district’s GRS Giving Place has helped thousands of students by removing barriers to their educational success. This effort would not be possible without the support of our outstanding community.
Please consider supporting this worthy cause by providing a donation to GRS. The items listed below are the most needed:
Toiletries (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and body wash)
Hair care products (shampoo and conditioner)
Community Reading
Garland ISD, in partnership with the cities of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse, is proud to share our community-wide initiative, Literacy for Life. GISD wants to foster literacy by creating a community of readers through access to the myON digital library. This online library features English, Spanish, and Vietnamese books and is designed to engage readers of all levels and interests. This free resource is available to all members of our communities with easy access to books from a home computer, tablet, or mobile device.
