RHJ Weekly Update
October 10, 2021
Parent Council Information
Our school parent association is in URGENT NEED of 4 more volunteers for our upcoming casino on October 28. Mileage, food, and accommodations are covered. For more information, please contact Crystal Hudson at crystal.hudson@eips.ca.
Casinos are our biggest fundraisers, and they are a fun and easy way for parents to help our school community. Some of the projects we have been able to support using casino funds in the past include purchasing 3D printers, paying for bussing for the entire school to attend plays at the Shell Theatre, paying for manuscripts and equipment rentals for our drama program, paying for presentations from organizations such as Saffron, repairing band equipment, and adding to equipment for our exercise room.

Week in Review
This week centered on Read-in-Week with the focus of "To each their own story". Student were able to get involved in a variety of ways, including connecting songs to life memories in the Soundtrack of your life project, collaborative storytelling and story writing, sending videos of students reading books to Win Ferguson, as well as book quote challenges.
There were a lot of good smells coming from the culinary kitchen with students making savoury buns and churros!
We also have some Social 9 students who are working on a cool project where they get to come up with a law and work through the process of getting it passed through parliament.

School Fees
Pay School Fees Online!
School fees will be posted on Monday for the 2021-22 school year to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay online using Visa, MasterCard or debit card—when available from your financial institution.
Don’t forget to log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of certain school activities such as field trips, class projects, athletic-team fees and more. Additionally, junior high and senior high fees can change as courses are added and deleted.
If circumstances exist where you’re unable to pay your school fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2021.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines visit eips.ca/schools/fees. Alternatively, contact Ms. Tomkow, Business Manager at Rudolph Hennig JHS at 780-998-2216.

Election 2021
Municipal Election 2021: Vote October 18
The next municipal election, which includes the election of local school board trustees, takes place on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. It’s your opportunity to get involved in public education by casting your vote for a public school trustee.
EIPS Trustee Election information
Electors can cast their votes for municipal candidates—mayors, reeves, councilors, as applicable—and school board trustee candidates—public or separate. Voting stations are typically open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Each municipality conducts the election for its residents and establishes formal voting station hours and procedures.
Improving Home-School Communication
To enhance communication between families and schools, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) has developed a how-to guide entitled, “Communication Protocol for Schools.” Topics include appropriate channels to use, standard formats and structures, timing and sequencing for regular and ongoing home-school communication, and ways to bring forward questions or concerns. The guide also offers useful tools and resources schools and families can use to enhance face-to-face meetings, email communication and various social media efforts.
