Pleasant Valley Post
March 2018
Happy March! This will be a fast month for us as we only have three weeks until spring break. In that time we have a lot going on and hope you'll take the time to talk with your student(s) and engage with them about the good stuff happening at school. I'll highlight some of this month's activities below and of course continue to do so in my weekly emails as well.
Tournament of Funny Books - our Literacy Team has put together a funniest book tournament and our whole school is participating! It kicked off in the final week of February! Sixteen books were chosen and matched up. Classes are reading the match ups and voting on favorites. We will be using the bracket on our main bulletin board to show the winners. Naturally, we will eventually get down two finalists! On the final day of school before spring break - March 23rd - we will have a Funniest Book Rally to reveal which book PVES has voted as the absolute funniest. We're only a week in and it's been fun to talk with students about the books. They love to share what book their class chose and whether their vote matched the class majority, etc. If you have a chance to talk with your student about this we'd love for you to join in on the fun!
March is Fine Arts Month and we are excited to be hosting an Artist in Residence, Ms. Torie Topor! She is a local artist who specializes in printmaking and she will be coming to PVES March 12th & 13th to share her craft with our students. Ms. Guido will host her in art classes so all students will get a chance to see her and work with her. Students will even have a chance to take home a tee shirt with our very own Rocky the PVES Panther's face printed on it!
SCA Talent Show - we are revisiting our talent show after not having enough interest earlier this year. Rehearsals start March 12th and the show is scheduled for March 21st. Ms. Mix has decided to get her students involved and incorporate songs for her Pre-K - 2nd graders into the show so we're excited to have that addition. We hope you can join us to see all talent PVES students will showcase that evening.
We look forward to a great month with our students and hope to see you at some of our events! Thank you for all you do to support your student and our school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hammill
Principal
