Superintendent's Report
March 22, 2021
Welcome to the Nest - Tonight we are asking the Board to consider the appointment of Ms. Charlotte 'Char' Seiverling as our new UDHS Supervisor of Special Education. Char is currently a Director of Special Education in the School District of Philadelphia, where she is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of special education staff and programming across numerous schools. Prior to her current role, Ms. Seiverling served the Stamford School District in Connecticut where she was in charge of IEP compliance after serving as a special education and mathematics teacher. Ms. Seiverling will assume the position previously held by Mr. Al Oberman who returned to the Bristol Township School District as their Director of Pupil Services and Special Education.
Special Acknowledgements - Tonight the Board will take action to accept four retirements. Collectively this group has served the Upper Dublin School District and our students very well. Each of them will be missed!
- Patricia Chialastri - Patricia serves as one of our Occupational Therapists, helping students unlock their potential in a myriad of ways as they overcome challenges to realize success in school.
- John Rodgers - John has inspired students to express themselves and the world around them through art for many years at Upper Dublin High School.
- Cindy Shapiro - Cindy has proudly served the Jarrettown Elementary School community for several years, and most recently she has taken on the challenge of becoming one of our Cardinal Academy teachers, even switching grades earlier this year to support students.
- Ruby Marmorstein - Ruby is a familiar face not only at Sandy Run but most recently at Fort Washington. Having served in several roles over the years - all in the support of students - Ruby's kindness and her work with children will always be remembered.
All of our retirees will be missed but we are grateful for the many years of dedicated service they provided to our students, to our District, and to our community.
In-Person Learning Model at SRMS & UDHS - April 5, 2021, remains the date that we will provide five days a week of in-person learning for our students at both Sandy Run Middle School and Upper Dublin High School.
- As we communicated in last week's Touch Base Tuesday and in the Follow-Up Friday, we are focused on at least three (3) feet of distance between individuals during the day and at least six (6) feet at lunch.
- There has been some concern expressed by families about returning to school immediately following spring break. We ask all families to be mindful of their students’ health when returning to school.
- We will continue to maintain our UDSD COVID-19 Dashboard and our On-Campus COVID-19 Case Tracker.
- We will continue collaborating with MCOPH on every case of COVID-19 that we encounter.
- The District will continue monitoring COVID-19 data and conditions. If warranted, the District may need to pivot back to a hybrid schedule. If the Leadership Team makes this decision, we will communicate this information as timely as possible.
- In-person cafeteria lunch service for Sandy Run Middle School and Upper Dublin High School will resume on April 5th. All meals are provided at no cost to students or families. Our food services team is also continuing to provide meal bundles for all students, which are available for curbside pick-up. Curbside distribution is every Wednesday and will include a distribution day on March 31st, which falls on the Wednesday of our Spring Break. For details on ordering meal bundles, program information, or menus, click here.
