We spent last week learning about the Scientific Process. The students conducted an investigation using gummy bears.
We will begin looking at the properties of matter. We will focus on making observations, the ability to sink or float, and magnetism.
Weekly Homework
Homework goes home on Tuesday and is due on Thursday. I do put in a homework grade at the end of the nine weeks. Every week the homework will have a daily 6 review and a second page attached that will cover what we are doing in class. Homework shouldn't take hours to complete; it is intended for review and should be completed on their own. If you notice your child struggling on something please write me a note or shoot an e-mail and I will go over it with them.
On Thursday's please take some time to look over the Daily 6 packet with your student. The Daily 6 packet needs to be signed and returned on Friday. Your child will be expected to take a problem solving quiz every Friday that contains similar types of problems. They will be able to use the packet when taking their quiz. Every day they are given 15 minutes to work the six problems and then we go over the problems together. They are expected to correct their work with a colored pencil so they can see the correct way to solve a problem.
Starting Wednesday we will take a 3 & ½ minute fact check each week. We will start with addition and subtraction of 1s and go through 10’s. If they miss more than three questions they will have the opportunity to retake the same check the following week, but after three attempts they will move on. We want them to know their facts and not need their fingers to solve addition and subtraction problems.
