Reading Endorsement Information
Whether you are working at a school site or here at ESF, a big topic of conversation is the new legislative requirement for reading endorsement. There are many myths circulating, the first of which is "everyone must be endorsed".
House Bill 7055 is the legislation governing these changes and it is very clear. HB 7055 says "Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, intensive reading interventions provided pursuant to a school district's reading plan must be delivered by a teacher who is certified or endorsed in reading".
The first thing a teacher should do is have a conversation with their administrator to see if they will be delivering intensive reading instruction to their students identified as significantly deficient (Coded under Course B). Not all schools deliver intensive remediation in the same way, therefore speaking with the principal is of utmost importance.
If you have teachers who are concerned and want to know more about the reading endorsement changes, want to know how to find out what courses they may have already taken, or how to have their transcript evaluated, please direct them to our county endorsement page https://www.brevardschools.org/Page/8001 The information on this page will provide them with specific information about these topics.
It is also recommended to read over our FAQ document located at the bottom of the Reading Information section.

Who Can I Call for ProGOE Issues?
ProGOE is a multi tiered system used for tracking of professional development, registration of PD, and evaluation. Question pertaining to PD records, school in-service proposals, transcripts, etc. would be answered in Professional Learning and Development. Itzel Copley or Lynnette Thorstensen would be your resources.
If you have questions about evaluation plans, those would go to Marylou Stant. She works in Human Resources as an Information System Analyst. She monitors all of the plans for the district and works with schools to make sure evaluations are being done correctly.
For any issues with signing into ProGOE you would call the BPS Help Desk
