A Message from Miss Buchko
Dear MacArthur Families,
Did you know that all third grade students in the State of Indiana are required to take and pass an assessment, called, IREAD-3 in order to be promoted to fourth grade. The testing dates for IREAD-3 at MacArthur will be March 8th and 9th. The IREAD-3 assessment is a very short window. If a student misses the spring administration or does not pass IREAD-3, there will be a summer IREAD-3 window to makeup or retake the test. Please mark your calendars and please avoid any appointments on March 8th and 9th. Thank you in advance for your support.
I Am testing for our Applied Skills students takes place the week of April 3rd.
ILEARN testing for grades 3, 4, and 5 students takes place at MacArthur over the course of two weeks beginning the week of April 17th - April 28th .
Have a great weekend.
Marian Buchko

Counselor Corner
Parents/Guardians,
Did you know that March is Disability Awareness Month? On February 26, 1987 President Ronald Reagan officially declared March National Disabilities Awareness Month. The proclamation called for people to provide understanding, encouragement and opportunities to help persons with disabilities to lead productive and fulfilling lives. I encourage you to have conversations with your children about neurodiversity. Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits. The word neurodiversity refers to the diversity of all people, but it is often used in the context of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as other neurological or developmental conditions such as ADHD or learning disabilities. Simply put, we should all celebrate everyone’s ABILITIES and not focus on things that they cannot do, or struggle with.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Bellamy

Semester Grades
Semester Grades
Elementary schools have joined our middle and high schools in reporting grades at the end of each semester. Previously, elementary report cards were finalized each nine weeks. We are shifting to reporting at the end of each semester so that students have a longer time to demonstrate what they know and can do. Our focus is on mastery learning and supporting a growth mindset in our learners.
We encourage parents/caregivers to monitor their student’s academic development throughout the semester by viewing the Buzz Gradebook, reviewing the daily Buzz Agendas, reading the newsletters sent by teachers, and communicating with teachers regarding any specific questions.
We recommend that you check your student’s grades in Buzz throughout the semester. We strongly encourage you to check your student’s progress at the end of nine weeks (March 13) in Buzz. Grades from specials (art, music, PE) will not be reported until the end of the semester. By checking your student’s grades regularly you can partner with our teachers to support your child’s growth.
Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher should you have any questions about their progress or to learn more about how you can partner with us to support your child’s academic development.
We want to thank our parents/guardians for being valued partners as we work together to educate our students.
While many people often think of student success in relation to grades or test scores, it is also important to consider the social and emotional growth of our students. Starting March 13-21st, we will ask students in grades 3-12 for their feedback via a 20-30 minute online survey completed at school. The survey will ask students to reflect on their self-efficacy, emotional regulation, social awareness, and supportive relationships. The results from the survey support our ability to address individual and school-identified needs.
We have previously administered this survey as part of our Ready To Learn student services work. The data was used to implement positive behavior interventions and improve school culture and climate. We look forward to using new data from this school year to identify and align services for students.
If you have any questions about the survey or do not want your child to participate, please contact your school’s main office before March 10th. Students who opt out of the survey will still be able to participate in programs or services created as a result of the data.
Sincerely,
CPCSC Office of Curriculum and Instruction
