Heat Protocol in the Halls
Important notes for the colder months
THE HEAT DOES NOT BLOW 24/7
Air will not come out of the vent at all times. If the thermostat is satisfied, the furnace will turn off and no air will blow out of the vent until the building cools down enough to turn the furnace back on. This is not a problem, it is the way the system was designed and means it is functioning properly.
Keep your windows closed and the vent clear!
Make sure there is at least a six inch clearing around your heat source. Items blocking the vents will cause the room to stay cooler. Open or unlocked windows can also cause the room to cool down. Please keep your windows closed and locked until spring.
Call Campus Safety with problems
If your room is too cold, please contact Campus Safety, NOT FACILITIES. Campus Safety will come to your room to assess the situation. Facilities will only respond to heat complaints if Campus Safety has determined that there is a problem with the heating system.
Bundle up!
It's winter in Vermont, it's going to get cold! Wear slippers, extra socks, long pants, or a sweatshirt, even when you're inside.
Reminder, these items are prohibited...
Space heaters, candles, hot plates, coffee pots/water boilers without an automatic shutoff, and sun lamps are prohibited.
