On behalf of Mrs. Dawber, Ms. Gallina and the Student Council, we would like to thank everyone who donated towards the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. So far we have raised over $6,000!
I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming writing celebration on Tuesday, May 15th. Invitations have been sent home with details.

Math in Third Grade by Kaitlyn Claros
Math is like traveling the world because you’re always learning something new. You learn from one module and then move into another. The skills from one module help you learn the topics in the next.
Right now in third grade we are learning all about fractions. Fractions are a part of a whole number. There is a numerator and a denominator in a fraction. The numerator is the number above the fraction bar and the denominator is the number below the fraction bar. We are also learning how to show a fraction as a picture and on a number line. This even helps us find equivalent fractions. Third grade math can be a little tricky but if you work hard and try your best you will successful.
Physical Education by Dylan Heerkens
Have you ever dreamed of playing in the big leagues? Well as soon as you step into PE class you will feel like your dream has come true!
The Teachers
The teachers are Mr. DiGennaro and Mrs. Vitale. Mr. DiGennaro is a nice happy and funny guy that any person will like! Mrs. Vitale is nice and also very funny but watch out you could get in trouble if you mess with them!
PE Rules
In PE there are some strict rules here are some…. No making physical contact. Always listen to what the teachers say And NO fooling around. It’s important to have those rules because it’s for your safety.
Types of Games
In PE we play lots of games. Some are real and sometimes the teachers like to get creative and make their own games. I like a game where there are mats scattered around and you have to try to get to the end, but watch out there are people throwing dodgeballs!
Now that you know the positives let me give you one negative gym is only 30 minutes if it were seven hours life would be great!
Pennies For Patients by Dylan Heerkens
Can you imagine being stuck in a hospital? Well in Pennies for Patients we donate money to people that are sick in the hospital. It is a great thing!
What We Do
At Jackson Avenue school the kids who donate money get to have a lot of fun. The first week the kids who donated money got to get raffle tickets. If you win the raffle you get to have lunch with the principals. Isn’t that exciting?
The next week there was something different. If you bring in money you get either a piece of tape to tape Mr. Tolipano to the wall or a ball to throw at Mr. DiGennaro.
Where Does The Money Go?
The money goes to kids in the hospital that have blood cancer. When we donate money to them they are able to afford their medical bills and doctors can do research.
At Jackson Avenue they make it fun to donate and it makes us happy to help kids with blood cancer. Maybe one day kids will raise enough money so there will be a cure for cancer.
Coding by Shane Cascone
In 4th grade coding we’re learning how to create games. We are doing a gravity code where we get to make our own game and get to jump. On a lesson, we learned how to program movements and create enemies.. Mr. Nucci also had us do a Project called longhouse. We learned how to add pictures to our codes that makes it more fun. Also we get to play our own game that we made. Coding is one of my favorite subjects.
Yay for ELA! by Kieran Kim
ELA is a very fun and easy subject in school. It’s all about reading and writing. You usually read a passage or book then write about it.
After you’ve read a book you respond in a certain way. One of the ways to write is using a paragraph response. First, you start by restating the question into a statement. Next you start with a transaction word like “first” or “to begin” and then give a supporting detail. Second, you also start with a transition word but instead of “first” you could use “then” or “also”. Then give another supportive detail for your answer. Next, you start like the other sentences a transition word (like lastly or finally) then give your last supporting detail. Lastly you have to either restate your first sentence, make an inference, or state your opinion. As you can see there is a recipe to writing a paragraph response.
There is also another way to respond. It is called an essay in it it includes 5 or more paragraphs. It starts with an introduction to what your writing about. Next is a paragraph response. Then another response. Third is your final response. They all should have supporting details with the topic you are writing about. In the end you will make a conclusion. This is how to write an essay.
Writing and reading are very fun subjects in school. Just do it everyday and it will be so drilled into your brain that you’ll find it easy.
