Principal's Message
Happy Sunday, RMS Team! I am hopeful that your week was enjoyable. I had a great experience co-presenting at the ASCD Conference. As I listened to and engaged with other educational professionals, I walked away feeling good about the work being done in our schools. Many of the speakers talked about the importance of equity in schools and ensuring that all students are meeting our desired benchmarks and learning at high levels. It was also inspiring to see evidence of high poverty schools that achieve at high levels because of the foundational instructional practices that occur from classroom to classroom, teachers using the PLC process in order to truly collaborate (on lesson plans, identifying essentials standards, reviewing data, providing small group instructional / station rotation, and researching and utilizing best practice pedagogy that yields high results) and capitalizing on building positive relationships with students and families.
Customer service is so important for us in our field because we are serving students. Please make sure that you go the extra mile to help students know where they are in reference to performance in your class. Give them tips on how they can improve if they are struggling. Call families if you notice that students are not completing homework, studying for tests, or if a behavioral concern is noted. Never underestimate the power of calling a parent in for a meeting or even calling on the phone to chat about observations and working with the parent as a partner in their child’s education. Parents care, but often times, they are unaware of how their children are doing. So, reach out and make the connections and see how your classroom environment changes as a result.
Our Senator Reading Challenge begins tomorrow!!! Please encourage students to read nightly at home and fill out the google form being pushed out in the Social Studies classes. Let’s get the kids excited about this challenge and encourage them to participate. If you know that a student has a talent, ask them to get on the google doc to try out for the talent show sharing the importance of reading. Message sent to students in Senator Scroll.
