Ladies Night Beats the Odds

A lot of thunder and a lot of rain did not deter the 28 pool members and guests who turned out for our second Ladies Night of the summer.

The night was still a resounding success, according to pool president Cynthia Brandt-Campagna!

Granted, we had to hole up in the men's locker room, the office, and the front porch for a while, but we had a great time anyway.

The event was hosted by members Tricia O'Reilly (in photo bottom left) and Cathy Ebner (center). That's our socials director, Sherri Spritzer in the right-hand photo.

Tricia thinks the 20 members and 8 guests in attendance might have been a record for this pool event.

We celebrated all things lunar (see mealtime contributions below) in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon shot.

Our next Ladies Night is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20th, 7-10 p.m. The pool will close to non-partygoers at 8:45 p.m.

Cost: $5 for adult pool members, $7 for their adult guests. Our free coupons aren't accepted for these activities.

Soft drinks will be provided. Bring your own beer, wine, or alcoholic beverage. Last week's event featured homemade sangria!

We need 15 RSVPs for the party to be a go. Until we know who the hosts will be, please RSVP to Sherri at sherri.spritzer@verizon.net.

Holy Chow Deal Continues

The Holy Chow fundraiser for the swim team continues through the summer!

The kosher Chinese take-out restaurant in the Kemp Mill Shopping Center is giving the Kemp Mill Kangaroos a percentage of all sales it delivers to our pool.

Just place your orders through the restaurant's website at https://holychow.me or by calling 301-649-5466 to enjoy a delicious, healthy meal poolside!

Deliveries to the pool also are free at 5:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays through July 18th!

The restaurant's standard $5 delivery fee will apply.

The team itself has wrapped up its season.

"We had a fantastic swim team season," reports Alyssa Parness, the team rep. "We started the season with 28 Joeys and 56 Kangaroos." Seven of the Joeys moved up to the 'Roos, she said.

The team held its awards celebration last Thursday (the photo at left features Alyssa during the event, second from left).

The season ended Saturday with the Division O championship meet at the West Hillandale pool and the official closing of Katelyn McNeely's fifth year as the team's coach.

Alyssa says all the coaches are expected to return next season.

A couple of reminders.

Swim Lessons

We’ve had some confusion, so here’s the deal:

Except for parents/siblings of students, ONLY KMSC-approved instructors may give swim lessons at the pool.

Unauthorized instructors will be asked to leave the facility and may be prohibited from returning. [This practice is in line with that of other recreational facilities such as the YMCA.]

If you want your child to have private or semi-private swim lessons at our pool, please register through our swim team's page at https://kangaroos.swimtopia.com/register/21035/main

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Guest Fees

Please make sure you’re paying for your guests. Our pool operates on a cash-flow basis and if the cash isn’t coming in, the water and chemicals aren’t going into our pool. Gate crashing is not cool.

Weekday fees for general guest privileges are $6 per person per day Monday-Friday at any time of day.

Guest fees apply to adult, children, and all babies who are capable of walking on their own.

On Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, the guest fee is $8 per person per day.

Members may purchase punch cards containing 10 guest passes for $60.

New Date for 'Tweens & Teens Party

Our middle- and high-schoolers will have their annual pool party on Sunday, August 18th (note new date) from 6-10 p.m.

The pool will close to non-party goers at 8:45 p.m.

Cost: $5 for pool members and their guests. Bring a friend! No free coupons accepted.

Ice cream will be served.

We need at least 15 teens and tweens to commit to attending in order to hold event.

Our membership director Amie Wohlfarth will be the event's organizer. Please RSVP to her at siomplyamie831@gmail.com.

Amie says she's planning to have a few surprises and a raffle prize!

She also needs some more parents to volunteer as organzers and chaperones. If you can be one of them, please contact Amie directly.
