Welcome Back Letter and Syllabus

Welcome Back!

After a well deserved summer I hope everyone is ready to come back to class! Our classroom is going to be home to all things English this year. I hope you are ready to read, write, and apply knowledge to your everyday lives!

Please take some time to read through the letter with your parents to know my expectations, and what you can look forward to learning this year.

Class Theme

It is my priority that our class is an environment where students are free to dream and believe in themselves, as well as one another.

What can you expect this year?

Grading Scale and Breakdown

Students will be graded by quarter on various activities. Every quarter, students will start fresh with new grades. The grade breakdown will be:

10% Participation

15% Daily Writing Journal

20% In-Class Assignments

25% Essays

30% Assessments

The final for this class will be an essay prompt assigned 2 weeks before the final due date. There will be one final at the end of each semester. Students will have time in class to work on their prewriting, rough draft, and final draft.

Grade scale:

100%-90% A

89%-80% B

79%-70% C

69%-60% D

>59% F

If students have questions about their grades or assignments, they are encouraged to ask!

I believe that our classroom will be an enjoyable experience and a loving community for all students. It is my hope that our class maintains these behaviors to highlight their wonderful qualities and enhance their peers.

About Ms. Reed

I am a graduate of California State University, Bakersfield, with a major in English and a minor in philosophy and education. In my spare time, I teach dance classes, coach the Vikings cheer team, and love to cook and read.
