Welcome Back Letter and Syllabus
Please take some time to read through the letter with your parents to know my expectations, and what you can look forward to learning this year.

What can you expect this year?
As with any English class, students will be expected to read and interact with the text. This will be done in a number of ways to incorporate all styles of learning and interests.
Students will be learning about and practicing a variety of writing techniques to improve their skills. This will also serve as an opportunity for students to find their strengths and areas of improvement in different writing styles.
Students will be encouraged to explore ways their knowledge can apply to their interests and the world around them. Our class will have the opportunity to recognize different ways English impacts our everyday lives.
Grading Scale and Breakdown
Students will be graded by quarter on various activities. Every quarter, students will start fresh with new grades. The grade breakdown will be:
15% Daily Writing Journal
20% In-Class Assignments
The final for this class will be an essay prompt assigned 2 weeks before the final due date. There will be one final at the end of each semester. Students will have time in class to work on their prewriting, rough draft, and final draft.
If students have questions about their grades or assignments, they are encouraged to ask!

I believe that our classroom will be an enjoyable experience and a loving community for all students. It is my hope that our class maintains these behaviors to highlight their wonderful qualities and enhance their peers.
